Endings & Post-Game Content

Congratulations, Slayer of Demons! You've reached the culmination of your arduous journey through Boletaria. Demon's Souls offers two distinct endings, each with unique implications for your character and the world. Understanding these endings and the subsequent New Game+ cycle is crucial for a complete experience.

The Two Endings

The ending you receive is determined by a single, pivotal choice after defeating the final boss, the Old One, within the Nexus.

Ending 1: The Good Ending (Slayer of Demons)

This ending is achieved by making the selfless choice, leading to the sealing of the Old One and a glimmer of hope for Boletaria.

  • Final Boss: After defeating the Old One, you will be transported back to the Nexus.
  • The Monumental's Plea: Speak with The Monumental. She will implore you to take a specific action.
  • The Choice: Approach the glowing light where the Old One once resided. You will be given the option to "Leave." Select this option.
  • Outcome: Your character will become the new Monumental, sacrificing their physical form to seal the Old One and prevent the Deep Fog from spreading further. The Maiden in Black will remain to watch over you. This ending is generally considered the "good" or "heroic" ending.
  • Reward: You will receive the Maiden in Black's Demon Soul, a unique Soul that can be consumed for a large amount of Souls or used to craft a powerful spell or miracle in New Game+.

Ending 2: The Bad Ending (Demon King)

This ending reflects a more selfish and power-hungry path, where you embrace the power of the Old One.

  • Final Boss: After defeating the Old One, you will be transported back to the Nexus.
  • The Monumental's Plea: Speak with The Monumental. She will implore you to take a specific action.
  • The Choice: Approach the glowing light where the Old One once resided. You will be given the option to "Attack the Maiden in Black." Select this option.
  • Outcome: You will strike down the Maiden in Black, absorbing her power and becoming a new Demon King, perpetuating the cycle of the Deep Fog. This ending is generally considered the "bad" or "evil" ending.
  • Reward: You will receive the Soul of the Demon King, a unique Soul that can be consumed for a large amount of Souls or used to craft a powerful spell or miracle in New Game+.

New Game+ (NG+)

Regardless of which ending you choose, completing the game automatically initiates New Game+. This is where the true challenge of Demon's Souls often begins.

What Carries Over?

  • Character Level and Stats: Your Soul Level and all accumulated stat points remain.
  • Equipment: All weapons, armor, rings, and consumables in your inventory and storage carry over. This includes upgraded items.
  • Souls: Any Souls you possess at the moment of completion will carry over.
  • Spells and Miracles: All learned spells and miracles remain accessible.
  • Crafting Materials: All upgrade stones and unique demon souls (except the one consumed for an ending reward) carry over.
  • Tendency: Your Character Tendency and World Tendency values will reset to Neutral. This is crucial for accessing certain events and items again.

What Does NOT Carry Over?

  • Key Items: All key items, such as Archstone Shards, the Mausoleum Key, and the Iron Key, are removed from your inventory. You must re-obtain them to progress.
  • Boss Souls (Used for Spells/Miracles/Weapons): While the Demon Souls themselves carry over, any spells, miracles, or unique weapons crafted from them will not be "unlearned" or "uncreated." You will need to acquire the necessary Demon Souls again in NG+ if you wish to craft duplicates or complete a different set.
  • NPC Progress: All NPC questlines reset. You'll need to find and interact with them again to progress their stories and gain their services.
  • Gates and Shortcuts: All previously opened gates and shortcuts will be reset, requiring you to unlock them again.

New Game+ Challenges & Opportunities

  • Increased Difficulty: Enemies in NG+ are significantly stronger, boasting higher health pools, increased damage output, and sometimes even new attack patterns. This difficulty scales further with each subsequent NG+ cycle.
  • World Tendency Manipulation: Since World Tendency resets, NG+ is an excellent opportunity to achieve Pure White or Pure Black World Tendency in worlds you may have missed in your first playthrough. This allows you to access exclusive events, items, and areas like the Penetrator's Armor Set in 1-1 (Pure White) or the Ceramic Coins for the Fractured Mode (Pure Black).
  • Trophy Hunting: Many trophies require multiple playthroughs, such as collecting all spells, miracles, or unique weapons. NG+ provides the perfect environment to complete these collections.
  • Experiment with Builds: With your existing character, NG+ allows you to re-specialize or further refine your build without starting from scratch.
  • Fractured Mode (PS5 Remake Exclusive): For those playing the PlayStation 5 remake, NG+ is required to unlock Fractured Mode. This mirror-image version of Boletaria can be accessed by trading 25 Ceramic Coins to Sparkly the Crow. Ceramic Coins are found exclusively in Pure Black World Tendency events across various worlds in NG+ and beyond.

Embrace the challenge of New Game+! It's a fantastic way to experience Demon's Souls with a fresh perspective, test your mastery, and uncover every secret Boletaria holds.
