All Endings Requirements & Walkthrough

Demon's Souls features a single ending, but the path to achieving it and the state of the world afterward are influenced by your actions and choices. The primary determinant of the ending's nuance is your Character Tendency. To achieve the "good" ending, where the Slayer of Demons chooses to remain in the Nexus and serve the Maiden in Black, you must maintain a Pure White Character Tendency. Conversely, a Pure Black Character Tendency leads to the "bad" ending, where the Slayer of Demons usurps the Maiden in Black's power.

Achieving Pure White Character Tendency involves defeating powerful Black Phantoms and invading other players' worlds to defeat them. Conversely, Pure Black Character Tendency is gained by defeating friendly NPCs and allowing yourself to be invaded and defeated by Black Phantoms. The game tracks your tendency across multiple playthroughs, so don't expect to achieve extreme tendencies in a single run without significant effort and potentially sacrificing valuable NPCs.

Key actions that influence Character Tendency include:

Defeating Bosses: Adds to White Tendency.
Defeating Invading Black Phantoms: Adds to White Tendency.
Defeating NPCs: Adds to Black Tendency.
Dying to Invading Black Phantoms: Adds to Black Tendency.
Using the "Return to Nexus" miracle or item: Does not affect tendency.

The final confrontation with the Maiden in Black is the pivotal moment. If your Character Tendency is Pure White, she will offer you a choice. If your Character Tendency is Pure Black, she will attack, and you will have the option to defeat her and claim her Soul.

To unlock specific items or spells related to endings, consider the following:

Northern Regalia: This powerful weapon is obtained by defeating the Old One with a Pure White Character Tendency and then defeating the Maiden in Black. It requires the Soul of the Old One.
Soulbrandt: This is the soul of the Old One, obtained by defeating it. It is a prerequisite for crafting the Northern Regalia.

Players aiming for specific outcomes should carefully consider their actions, especially regarding the lives of NPCs like Saint Urbain or Yuria the Witch, as their demise will push your Character Tendency towards Black.
