Merchants & Vendors

Navigating the treacherous world of Boletaria requires careful preparation, and a key part of that is knowing where to acquire essential items, upgrades, and even spells. Merchants and vendors are scattered throughout the Nexus and the various Archstones, each offering a unique selection of goods. Understanding their inventories and locations is crucial for survival.

The Nexus

The Nexus serves as your central hub, and several vital vendors can be found here once certain conditions are met. Always check back after defeating a boss or progressing through a new Archstone, as their inventories may expand.

  • Stockpile Thomas: Found near the Archstone of the Small King (Boletarian Palace).
    • Services: Item storage. This is invaluable as your carrying capacity is limited. Deposit any items you don't immediately need to avoid becoming overburdened. He also offers the option to trade the Jade Hair Ornament (found in 1-1) for a Ring of Herculean Strength, which increases your equip load.
    • Strategy: Regularly offload crafting materials, extra weapons/armor, and consumable items you're saving for later. This keeps your inventory manageable and allows you to pick up more loot during expeditions.
  • Boldwin, the Blacksmith: Located on the lower level of the Nexus, near the Archstone of the Small King.
    • Services: Weapon and armor repairs, basic weapon upgrades using Hardstone and Sharpstone, and sales of common weapons, shields, and repair powders.
    • Key Items: He sells the Short Spear, Knight Shield, and Wooden Catalyst (if you didn't start with one). Always keep your equipment in good repair to avoid reduced effectiveness.
    • Strategy: Prioritize repairing your primary weapon and shield after each major excursion. Early game, consider purchasing a Wooden Catalyst if you're building a magic user.
  • Blacksmith Ed: Found in Stonefang Tunnel (Archstone 2-1), but his services are crucial for advanced upgrades.
    • Services: Advanced weapon upgrades using unique boss souls and rare crafting materials. He is essential for creating powerful unique weapons and upgrading to +6 and beyond.
    • Unlocking Ed: To access him, you must defeat the Armor Spider in 2-1. He is located down a hidden elevator shaft to the right of the main path after the first fog gate in 2-1.
    • Strategy: Save your rare upgrade materials and boss souls for Ed. Consult a crafting guide to plan your weapon upgrade path carefully, as some upgrades are irreversible.
  • Freke's Apprentice: Appears in the Nexus after rescuing Sage Freke the Visionary from Tower of Latria (Archstone 3-1).
    • Services: Sells basic spells and magic-related items.
    • Key Spells: Offers essential early-game spells like Soul Arrow, Flame Toss, and Enchant Weapon.
    • Strategy: If you're a magic user, purchase Soul Arrow immediately. Enchant Weapon is also a strong buff for melee characters with some intelligence.
  • Yuria, the Witch: Appears in the Nexus after rescuing her from Boletarian Palace (Archstone 1-3).
    • Services: Sells advanced and powerful spells.
    • Unlocking Yuria: This is a complex rescue mission. You need the Iron Key (found near the Tower Knight Archstone in 1-2, requiring Pure Black World Tendency in 1-1 to access a specific area), the Official's Cap (dropped by Fat Officials in 2-1 and 2-2), and the Bloody Iron Key (dropped by a Fat Official in 1-3). Use the Iron Key in 1-3 to open a gate, then proceed to find Yuria. You must wear the Official's Cap to trick the Fat Official guarding her.
    • Key Spells: Offers devastating spells such as Firestorm, Ignite, and Homing Soul Arrow.
    • Strategy: Yuria's spells are game-changers for magic builds. Prioritize her rescue once you're strong enough to tackle the challenges of 1-3.
  • Saint Urbain: Appears in the Nexus after rescuing him from Shrine of Storms (Archstone 4-2).
    • Services: Sells Miracles and divine-related items.
    • Unlocking Urbain: In 4-2, after defeating the Adjudicator, proceed through the level until you find a hidden path leading down to a pit. Urbain is trapped at the bottom. You'll need to defeat the Black Phantom Satsuki (if in Pure Black World Tendency) or navigate carefully.
    • Key Miracles: Provides essential healing and support Miracles like Heal, Regen, and Warding.
    • Strategy: Miracles are excellent for survivability. Heal is a must-have for any faith-oriented build, and Warding significantly reduces physical damage taken.

Boletarian Palace (Archstone 1)

  • Dregling Merchant: Found in various locations within Boletarian Palace.

    • Key Items: He sells the Pickaxe, Plate Set (in 2-1), and Ring of Flame Resistance (in 2-2).
    • Strategy: The Filthy Man is your primary source for upgrading materials early game. Purchase enough to upgrade your preferred weapon to +3 or +4. The Ring of Flame Resistance is highly recommended before facing the Flamelurker.

Tower of Latria (Archstone 3)

  • Once Royal Mistress: Found in Tower of Latria (Archstone 3-1).
    • Services: Sells various consumables, including Fresh Spice and Old Spice (for MP recovery), and the Thief's Ring.
    • Location: She is locked in a cell on the upper levels of the prison. You'll need the Prison of Hope 2F West Key or Prison of Hope 2F East Key to reach her.
    • Key Items: The Thief's Ring is an invaluable item for stealth and avoiding enemy detection.
    • Strategy: Prioritize acquiring the Thief's Ring from her. It makes many areas significantly easier, especially for ranged or stealthy builds. Stock up on Spice if you're a magic user.

Shrine of Storms (Archstone 4)

  • Graverobber Blige: Found in Shrine of Storms (Archstone 4-1 and 4-2).

    • Services: Sells various consumables, including Dark Moon Grass, Ephemeral Eyes of Stone, and Sticky White Stuff.
    • Key Items: Ephemeral Eyes of Stone are crucial for regaining your human form. Sticky White Stuff is a powerful temporary weapon buff.
    • Strategy: Always keep a few Ephemeral Eyes of Stone on hand for when you need to shift World Tendency or summon allies. Sticky White Stuff is excellent for boss fights.

    • Services: Sells various consumables, including Royal Lotus (cures poison), Widow's Lotus (cures plague), and Stone of Ephemeral Eyes.
    • Strategy: The Valley of Defilement is rife with poison and plague. Stock up heavily on Royal Lotus and Widow's Lotus before entering these Archstones.
