Agent Recruitment
Beyond your core companions and advisors, the Inquisition can bolster its ranks with several agents. These individuals, often found in the world's far-flung corners, provide invaluable bonuses to your War Table operations, reducing completion times, increasing success rates, or even unlocking new options. Recruiting them is often a matter of keen observation, specific dialogue choices, or completing minor quests. This guide details how to find and persuade every available agent to join your cause.
The Hinterlands: Early Opportunities
The Hinterlands, your first major open-world area, is surprisingly rich with potential recruits. Prioritize these early to maximize your War Table efficiency.
- Speaker Anais:
- Location: Near the Crossroads, often found preaching to refugees.
- Recruitment: Speak with her and choose the "Andraste's Light" dialogue option (requires a high enough Faith Inquisitor perk, which you can unlock at the War Table). Alternatively, if you lack the perk, you can complete the quest "Praise the Herald" by collecting ten "Andraste's Grace" herbs found throughout the Hinterlands and delivering them to her.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for certain "Gather Information" War Table operations.
- Lord Berand:
- Location: Found wounded near the river crossing south of the Crossroads, close to the "Upper Lake Camp" landmark.
- Recruitment: Complete his personal quest, "The Captain of the Chargers," which involves retrieving his lost sword from a nearby bandit camp. Return the sword to him.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Gather Resources" War Table operations.
- Ritts:
- Location: Near the Grand Forest Villa, often involved in a skirmish with templars or bandits.
- Recruitment: After helping her, she'll ask for help with a personal matter. If you have Cassandra in your party, she can vouch for Ritts, making recruitment easier. Otherwise, you may need to complete a small task for her, such as clearing out a nearby bandit camp.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Gain Influence" War Table operations.
Val Royeaux: The Chantry's Embrace
Your first visit to Val Royeaux offers a chance to recruit an agent tied to the Chantry's influence.
- Sister Leliana's Agent (Name Varies):
- Location: After the initial cutscene in Val Royeaux, explore the market area. You'll find a Chantry sister being harassed by a group of Templars.
- Recruitment: Intervene and defend the sister. After the confrontation, speak with her and she will offer her services to Leliana.
- Benefit: Provides a small bonus to Leliana's success chance on War Table operations.
Storm Coast: A Seafaring Ally
The rugged Storm Coast holds one unique agent.
- Blanche:
- Location: Inside the "Small Cave" on the southern part of the Storm Coast, near the coastline.
- Recruitment: Blanche is a smuggler. You'll need to either persuade her with a successful "Deception" dialogue option (requires a Rogue Inquisitor or specific perks) or complete a small fetch quest for her, usually involving retrieving a hidden cache of goods from a nearby location.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Trade Negotiations" War Table operations.
Skyhold: The Heart of the Inquisition
Once you reach Skyhold, new opportunities arise, and some agents may even appear directly within your new stronghold.
- Clemence:
- Location: After reaching Skyhold, Clemence can be found in the tavern area.
- Recruitment: Speak with him and offer him a position as the Inquisition's official bard. He will readily accept.
- Benefit: Increases the influence gained from completing War Table operations.
- Servis:
- Location: Found imprisoned in the Skyhold dungeons after completing the main quest "In Your Heart Shall Burn."
- Recruitment: You have a choice here. If you choose to recruit him, he will become an agent. This typically requires a "Diplomacy" or "Intimidation" dialogue option.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Underworld Operations" War Table missions.
Crestwood: A Ghostly Encounter
Crestwood offers a chance to recruit a unique agent with a dark past.
- Frederic of Serault:
- Location: Found near the "Three Trout Farm" in Crestwood, investigating the undead.
- Recruitment: Complete his quest "Still Waters," which involves clearing out the undead in the flooded village and closing the Fade Rift. After the quest, speak with him again and offer him a position.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Military" War Table operations.
Emerald Graves: The Dalish Connection
Deep within the Emerald Graves, a Dalish agent awaits.
- Fairbanks:
- Location: At the Argon's Lodge in the Emerald Graves.
- Recruitment: Complete his personal quest line, "Fairbanks' Agenda," which involves helping him deal with the corruption and bandits in the area. Once his trust is earned, he will offer his services.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Diplomacy" War Table operations.
Exalted Plains: A Mercenary's Loyalty
The war-torn Exalted Plains can yield a valuable mercenary.
- Belle:
- Location: Found near the "Halting March" camp in the Exalted Plains, amidst the fighting.
- Recruitment: Speak with her and choose the "Recruit" option. She will join if you have enough gold (usually around 500-1000 gold) or if you have a high enough "Influence" rating.
- Benefit: Increases the success chance for "Military" War Table operations.
The Western Approach: Scientific Minds
The harsh Western Approach holds two agents focused on research and strategy.
- Professor Bram Kenric:
- Location: Inside the "Still Ruins" in the Western Approach, conducting research.
- Recruitment: Complete his quest "Sharper Than a Serpent's Tooth," which involves retrieving research notes from the ruins. Return the notes to him.
- Benefit: Reduces the time for "Research" War Table operations.
- Frederic's Assistant (Name Varies):
- Location: After recruiting Frederic of Serault (from Crestwood), his assistant will appear in the Western Approach, near the "Garrison" camp.
- Recruitment: Simply speak to them after Frederic has joined the Inquisition.
- Benefit: Provides a small bonus to Cullen's success chance on War Table operations.
