Your adventure begins in the small, unassuming village of Farebury. After the opening cinematic, you'll find yourself in control of the Hero, accompanying King Trode and Princess Medea, both transformed into grotesque forms by the evil Dhoulmagus. Your first task is to gather information and prepare for your journey. Speak to the villagers to learn about the curse and your objective: to find Dhoulmagus and break the spell.
Before leaving, explore Farebury thoroughly. There's a church where you can save your game, an item shop to stock up on Medicinal Herbs, and an inn to rest and recover HP/MP. check barrels and pots for hidden items – a Dragon Quest tradition! You'll also meet Yangus, a former bandit who will soon join your party. After speaking with the key NPCs and gathering your initial supplies, head north out of town towards the Alexandria region. The path is straightforward, but be wary of the weak monsters in the surrounding fields; they are good for your first few levels.
