Navigating the economy of Astoltia is crucial for any adventurer in Dragon Quest X. Understanding the various currencies and how to acquire essential resources will significantly enhance your journey, allowing you to purchase powerful gear, craft valuable items, and progress through the game's many challenges.

Gold (G)

Gold is the primary currency in Dragon Quest X, used for almost all transactions, from buying equipment to paying for services. Accumulating a healthy gold reserve is vital for character progression.

Monster Drops: The most straightforward way to earn Gold is by defeating monsters. Many enemies drop small amounts of Gold directly, and some drop items that can be sold to vendors.
Selling Unwanted Items: Regularly check your inventory for items you don't need, such as duplicate equipment, crafting materials you have in excess, or quest rewards that don't suit your current build. Visit any general store or specific vendor to sell these for Gold.
Client Request Quests: Many Client Request Quests offer Gold as a reward, in addition to experience points and other items. Prioritize completing these, especially early on, to build your initial funds.

Key Emblems

Key Emblems are not a traditional currency but are critical resources that unlock significant portions of the main story and access to new areas. There are two main types:

Minor Key Emblems: These are typically acquired during the early stages of your Online Mode adventure, often tied to your chosen race's initial storyline. Examples include the Green Key Emblem, Black Key Emblem, Yellow Key Emblem, Blue Key Emblem, and White Key Emblem. You'll usually receive these by completing specific main story quests within your starting racial zone or immediately after.
Major Key Emblems: These become available after you've progressed further and typically involve more complex quest lines or boss encounters. Examples include the Purple Key Emblem, Red Key Emblem, Gold Key Emblem, Silver Key Emblem, and Pink Key Emblem. Collecting a certain number of these (e.g., six emblems) is often a prerequisite for advancing to major story arcs like "The Fortress in the Sky" or "The Past."

Strategy for Key Emblems: Focus on the main story quests for your chosen race (Elf, Ogre, Dwarf, Weddie, Pukuripo) to acquire the initial Minor Key Emblems. Once you have a few, the game will guide you towards the Major Key Emblems through subsequent story objectives. Always check your quest log for the next step in your main story progression to ensure you're on track to earn these vital items.

Gathering Resources

Raw materials are the backbone of the crafting economy. Dedicating time to gathering can save you Gold or provide a steady income stream.

Foraging Points: Throughout Astoltia, you'll find glowing spots on the ground or on trees. Interacting with these will yield various items such as herbs (e.g., Medicinal Herb, Antidotal Herb), wood (e.g., Cypress Stick components), or ores (e.g., Copper Ore, Iron Ore). These spawn points are often found in abundance in early-game zones like the plains surrounding your starting city.
Mining Locations: Specific areas, often caves or mountainous regions, are rich in mineral deposits. Equip a pickaxe (purchasable from tool vendors) and interact with mining nodes to obtain various ores and gems. Higher-level mining nodes will yield rarer and more valuable materials.
Fishing: Acquire a fishing rod and bait from a fishing vendor. Find bodies of water and cast your line. Different fishing spots yield different types of fish, which can be used in cooking, sold for Gold, or sometimes exchanged for unique items.
