Weapons
The arsenal available to you in The Elder Scrolls VI is as diverse as the threats you will face. Choosing the right weapon for the job, understanding its strengths, and mastering its use will be fundamental to your success. Weapons are broadly categorized by their combat style and effectiveness.
Melee Weapons:
- One-Handed Weapons: This category includes daggers, swords, and maces. Daggers are fast but deal less damage, excelling in quick strikes and critical hits, especially when used with stealth. Swords offer a balance of speed and damage, making them versatile. Maces are slower but deliver powerful blows, often effective against armored opponents. Dual-wielding one-handed weapons can unleash devastating rapid attacks.
- Two-Handed Weapons: This includes greatswords, battleaxes, and warhammers. These weapons are slower to swing but deal immense damage per hit. They are excellent for staggering enemies and breaking through defenses, but leave you vulnerable during their attack animations.
Ranged Weapons:
- Bows: The quintessential ranged weapon. Bows allow for precise targeting from a distance, enabling you to engage enemies before they can close the gap. Different arrow types can inflict various elemental damage or status effects. Stealth archery is a potent and popular playstyle.
- Crossbows (Potential Addition): While not confirmed, crossbows could offer a slower but more powerful alternative to bows, potentially with unique ammunition types or armor-piercing capabilities.
Magical Implements:
- Staves: These magical tools are wielded by spellcasters and can be used to cast spells without expending Magicka, or to enhance the power of your own spells. Different staves might be attuned to specific schools of magic, such as destruction or conjuration.
Weapon Enchantments:
Many weapons can be found or crafted with powerful enchantments. These can add elemental damage (fire, frost, shock), life-draining effects, soul-trapping capabilities, or even boost your own combat skills. Enchanting your weapons is a key aspect of optimizing your damage output.
Weapon Skills & Perks:
As you use specific weapon types, your proficiency will increase, unlocking new perks in the associated skill trees. These perks can grant bonuses like increased critical hit chance, faster attack speed, reduced stamina cost, or unique combat maneuvers. For example, investing in the "One-Handed" skill might unlock a perk that allows for a devastating power attack with a sword.
Choosing Your Weapon:
Your choice of weapon should al with your character build and the enemies you are facing. A heavily armored warrior might prefer the raw power of a warhammer, while a nimble assassin would favor a swift dagger or a silent bow. Experiment with different weapon types to discover what feels most effective and enjoyable for your playstyle.
