Dog Guide & Commands
Your loyal canine companion is more than just a furry friend in Fable III; they are an invaluable asset for exploration, combat, and even uncovering hidden treasures. Understanding their capabilities and how to effectively issue commands will significantly enhance your journey through Albion.
Acquiring Your Dog
Your dog will join you early in your adventure, during the initial stages of your escape from Bowerstone Castle. This faithful companion will be with you for the entirety of your quest, growing and evolving alongside you.
Dog Skills & Upgrades
Your dog possesses several innate abilities that can be enhanced through the Road to Rule. Investing Guild Seals into these upgrades will unlock new functionalities and improve existing ones, making your dog even more useful.
- Digging: Initially, your dog will occasionally dig up minor items. Upgrading this skill on the Road to Rule increases the frequency and quality of items found, including valuable gold, potions, and even rare collectibles.
- Combat: Your dog will instinctively attack enemies during combat. Upgrading their combat prowess on the Road to Rule increases their damage output and resilience, making them a more formidable ally in battle.
- Treasure Finding: As you progress, your dog will begin to alert you to nearby hidden treasures, such as Dig Spots and Silver Keys. Further upgrades on the Road to Rule will expand their detection range and allow them to sniff out even more elusive secrets.
- Friendship: Maintaining a strong bond with your dog through petting, playing, and giving treats will improve their effectiveness and responsiveness to commands.
Issuing Commands
While your dog is largely autonomous, you can issue specific commands to direct their actions. These commands are accessed through the interaction menu when near your dog.
- Pet: This simple interaction strengthens your bond with your dog. A happy dog is a more effective dog!
- Play: Engaging in play with your dog, such as throwing a ball (if you have one), also boosts your bond and can sometimes lead to them finding small items.
- Praise/Scold: These context-sensitive commands appear after your dog performs an action. Praise them for good behavior (like digging up treasure or defeating an enemy) and scold them for undesirable actions (though these are rare for your loyal companion).
- Stay: This command will make your dog remain in their current location until you call them or move too far away. Useful for stealth sections or when you need them to wait while you solve a puzzle.
- Follow: Your dog will naturally follow you, but if they've been commanded to stay or have wandered off, this command will bring them back to your side.
- Dig (Contextual): When your dog indicates a digging spot (by barking and pawing at the ground), you can interact with them to encourage them to dig. This is crucial for unearthing buried treasures.
- Attack (Contextual): While your dog will engage enemies automatically, you can sometimes direct them to attack a specific target by interacting with them during combat.
Maximizing Your Dog's Potential
To get the most out of your canine companion, consider these strategies:
- Regular Interaction: Pet your dog frequently. A high friendship level improves their responsiveness and overall effectiveness.
- Road to Rule Investment: Prioritize upgrading your dog's skills on the Road to Rule, especially Digging and Treasure Finding, as these provide tangible benefits in terms of loot and secrets.
- Listen to Your Dog: Pay attention to your dog's barks and body language. They will often alert you to nearby enemies, hidden treasures, or even quest objectives. A sustained bark and pawing at the ground almost always indicates a Dig Spot.
- Treats: While not a direct command, giving your dog treats (found throughout Albion or purchased from vendors) will temporarily boost their mood and can sometimes lead to them finding extra items.
By understanding and using your dog's abilities, you'll find that they are an indispensable partner in your quest to become the ruler of Albion.
