Your C.A.M.P. (Construction and Assembly Mobile Platform) is your personal sanctuary in the harsh wasteland of Fallout 76. Mastering its placement and understanding the basics of construction is fundamental to establishing a secure base, crafting essential items, and defending yourself against the dangers of Appalachia. A well-placed C.A.M.P. can sificantly enhance your survival and progression.

Choosing the Right Location

When placing your C.A.M.P., consider several factors:

  • Resource Nodes: Look for areas with abundant resource nodes (e.g., water, ore, oil, coal) that can be utilized with extractors.
  • Proximity to Vendors/Workbenches: Being near train stations or towns with public workbenches can be convenient.
  • Defensibility: Elevated positions or areas with natural choke points can make defending your C.A.M.P. easier.
  • Aesthetics and Flatness: While not essential for survival, a visually appealing and relatively flat area makes building more manageable.
  • Avoid High-Traffic Areas: Placing your C.A.M.P. in less populated spots can reduce the chances of encountering hostile players or creatures right at your doorstep.

The Building Interface

Once you've chosen a spot, activating your C.A.M.P. module will bring up the building interface. You can construct various components, including:

  • Foundations: Provide a stable base for your structures and allow for multi-story buildings.
  • Walls and Roofs: Enclose your C.A.M.P. to provide shelter and defense.
  • Crafting Stations: Essential for repairing and crafting weapons, armor, chems, and more.
  • Power Generators: Needed to power various C.A.M.P. objects, including lights and defensive turrets.
  • Defenses: Turrets, walls, and traps can help protect your C.A.M.P. from attacks.
  • Decorations: Furniture, posters, and other items to personalize your space.

Blueprint System

The blueprint system allows you to save entire structures or sections of your C.A.M.P. If your C.A.M.P. module is destroyed or you need to move, you can save your build as a blueprint and reconstruct it elsewhere, provided the terrain is suitable and you have the necessary materials. This is incredibly useful for relocating your base.

Powering Your C.A.M.P.

Most C.A.M.P. objects require power. You'll need to build generators and connect them to your structures using power conduits. Larger and more complex C.A.M.P.s will require more powerful generators or multiple smaller ones. Some items, like water purifiers, also require power to function.

Moving Your C.A.M.P.

You can move your C.A.M.P. at any time by storing your existing structures and placing the C.A.M.P. module in a new location. Note that storing structures will refund a portion of the materials used. If you place a new C.A.M.P. module, your old one is automatically stored, and you'll have a limited time to retrieve it before it's lost.

Tips for C.A.M.P. Placement

  • Start Small: Don't overcommit to a massive build initially. Expand as you gather more resources and experience.
  • Utilize Verticality: Building upwards can save space and offer defensive advantages.
  • Secure Your Resources: Place extractors on resource nodes and protect them with defenses.
  • Keep it Functional: Ensure all essential crafting stations are easily accessible.
