Individual Companion Guides

Companions are invaluable allies in the Mojave Wasteland, offering combat support, unique dialogue, and assistance with various tasks. Each companion has their own backstory, personality, and preferred combat style, making them more than just pack mules. Learning to utilize their strengths and manage their needs will sificantly enhance your survival and enjoyment of the game.

There are seven potential companions you can recruit throughout your journey in Fallout: New Vegas. Each companion has specific recruitment quests or conditions, and some may leave if your actions conflict with their personal code.

1. ED-E (Eyebot):

  • Location: Primm (initially), then Repconn Headquarters.
  • Abilities: Repairs weapons and armor, provides a repair bonus, and can use a laser weapon. Later in the game, ED-E gains enhanced combat capabilities and can repair companions.
  • Recruitment: Found in the Mojave Outpost, then later at Repconn Headquarters. Requires a Science or Repair check to activate.
  • Notes: ED-E is a robot and doesn't require food or sleep. His unique quest involves a journey to the Big MT (Old World Blues DLC).

2. Boone (NCR Ranger):

  • Location: The Lucky Horseshoe Bar in Novac.
  • Abilities: Expert sniper with a powerful sniper rifle. Has a unique 'Spotting' ability that highlights enemies in VATS.
  • Recruitment: Requires completing his personal quest, 'One for My Baby,' which involves confronting his past.
  • Notes: Boone is fiercely loyal to the NCR and has a strong sense of justice. He will leave if you consistently act against NCR interests or commit acts he deems dishonorable.

3. Veronica Santangelo (Brotherhood of Steel):

  • Location: 188 Trading Post.
  • Abilities: Proficient with Power Fists and Super Sledges. Can use Power Armor.
  • Recruitment: Found at the 188 Trading Post. She is on a mission to investigate the Brotherhood's isolationist policies.
  • Notes: Veronica is a strong-willed individual who questions the Brotherhood's dogma. She can be critical of Caesar's Legion and the NCR's expansionism.

4. Lily Bowen (Super Mutant):

  • Location: Jacobstown.
  • Abilities: Wields a unique Super Sledge and has a powerful stealth ability, especially at night.
  • Recruitment: Found in Jacobstown. Her personal quest involves dealing with her mental instability and her grandson.
  • Notes: Lily suffers from a rare form of psychosis that is exacerbated by moonlight. She is generally kind-hearted despite her appearance.

5. Arcade Gannon (Follower of the Apocalypse):

  • Location: The Old Mormon Fort in Freeside.
  • Abilities: Proficient with Energy Weapons and has a unique 'Follower's Blessing' ability that provides a small boost to healing and radiation resistance.
  • Recruitment: Requires completing his personal quest, 'For Auld Lang Syne,' which involves reuniting him with his former comrades.
  • Notes: Arcade is a compassionate individual who believes in helping others. He is critical of the NCR's military actions and Caesar's Legion's brutality.

6. Raul Tejada (Ghoul):

  • Location: Black Mountain Radio Station.
  • Abilities: Proficient with revolvers and shotguns. Has a unique ability to repair weapons and armor over time.
  • Recruitment: Found at Black Mountain. Requires a Speech check to convince him to leave his current situation.
  • Notes: Raul is a centuries-old ghoul with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has a cynical but ultimately good-hearted outlook.

7. Rex (Cyberdog):

  • Location: The King's School of Impersonation in Freeside.
  • Abilities: A loyal cybernetic dog that attacks enemies with bites and a powerful bark.
  • Recruitment: Given to you by The King. He is loyal and eager to please.
  • Notes: Rex suffers from an aging brain. His loyalty can be transferred to a new cybernetic brain found in the Old World Blues DLC.

Companion Management:

  • Equipment: You can give your companions weapons, armor, and ammunition. Ensure they are equipped with effective gear.
  • Orders: You can issue commands to your companions, such as 'Wait,' 'Follow,' 'Attack,' and 'Stay Close.'
  • Personal Quests: Completing a companion's personal quest often unlocks their ultimate ability or improves their effectiveness.
  • Loyalty: Be mindful of your actions. Some companions will leave if your choices conflict with their morals or faction allegiances.
