"By a Campfire on the Trail" is a quest focused on gathering specific ingredients, Broc Flower and Xander Root, which are crucial for crafting. This quest also provides an early opportunity to practice combat against Giant Mantis Nymphs and explore the Goodsprings Schoolhouse.

Your goal for this quest is to find a Broc Flower and a Xander Root. Xander Roots can be located near the Goodsprings Schoolhouse, along the south-western edge of town. There are three Xander Roots near a long-dead tree or its stump. You will need to fight some Giant Mantis Nymphs to acquire them.

While in the area, you can explore the schoolhouse. Head inside and defeat five Giant Mantis Nymphs. Search the south-western corner of the school to find a safe [Easy] and a terminal [Easy]. Hacking the computer merely unlocks the safe, but you can hack the terminal and then leave without unlocking the safe to maximize your XP gain. This section also serves as an introduction to hacking and lockpicking mechanics.
