Still in the Dark (Brotherhood of Steel)

"Still in the Dark" is a significant quest for the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout: New Vegas, allowing the Courier to gain their trust and earn membership. This quest, along with "Pistol Packing," increases your fame with the Brotherhood, granting access to their resources and powerful gear.

To earn Brotherhood membership, Elder McNamara tasks the Courier with installing a signal transmitter atop Black Mountain. This involves braving super mutants and nightkin to complete the task. Upon successful completion, the Courier is rewarded with power armor and full Brotherhood access.

Beyond membership, the Courier can further aid Elder McNamara by recovering lost patrol data, scouting NCR positions, and salvaging vital equipment from irradiated Vaults. These actions determine whether the Brotherhood will rejoin the world or remain sealed behind steel. Gaining fame through these quests earns new privileges at Hidden Valley, including access to ammo caches and Torres’ expanded inventory. True Brotherhood loyalty is rewarded with powerful gear and respect.

Alternatively, Mr. House may task the Courier with eliminating the Mojave Brotherhood of Steel. This involves infiltrating their Hidden Valley bunker and either triggering its self-destruction or wiping out the Brotherhood by force.

Other Brotherhood-related quests include:

  • Veronica's Journey: Veronica travels the Mojave seeking proof the Brotherhood must change. After witnessing the world beyond Hidden Valley, she confronts the elder and makes a choice—stay and struggle to reform the order from within, or leave and forge a new path.
  • Scribe Ibsen's Task: In the Hidden Valley archives, the Courier helps Scribe Ibsen eliminate a rogue pre-War virus from the Brotherhood's network by isolating infected terminals in a timed challenge, restoring access to critical data and paving the way for political shifts.
