They Went That-a-Way

"They Went That-a-Way" is the third Main Quest in Fallout: New Vegas, marking your departure from Goodsprings. This quest involves tracking down those who attacked you, starting with a journey south alongside Sunny Smiles. You'll engage in combat training, learn about surviving the Mojave, and gather crucial information to continue your pursuit.

Your journey begins by accompanying Sunny Smiles south from Goodsprings. She will guide you to areas where you can practice your combat skills against Geckos. Initially, Sunny will suggest a stealth approach to snipe a pair of Geckos near a rock. If detected, Sunny will assist in combat. After dealing with these, she offers 60 rounds of 5.56 ammo if you agree to continue helping her.

Next, Sunny leads you to a second well, where you'll face a trio of Geckos without the benefit of stealth. You can either let Sunny handle them or assist her. Following this, you'll proceed to a third well where a Goodsprings Settler is under attack by two Geckos. Saving the settler rewards you with three bottles of Purified Water and improves your reputation in Goodsprings. After all Geckos are dead, Sunny will reward you with 50 XP, 50 Caps, and Goodsprings Fame. She will then offer further training in living off the land, which starts the quest "By a Campfire on the Trail." You can accept this to continue training or decline to move on to other matters.
