Liberating Garrisons is a core activity in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, providing valuable experience, cash, and opening up new fast travel points. While a direct assault is always an option, a stealthy approach often yields greater rewards and reduces the risk of being overwhelmed. This section details effective strategies for clearing these enemy strongholds.

Initial Reconnaissance and Planning

Before engaging, always perform a thorough reconnaissance of the Garrison. use your Cyber-Eye (activated with the 'Q' key on PC, or equivalent on console) to tag all enemy soldiers, turrets, and alarms. Pay close attention to enemy patrol routes and the locations of any Blood Dragons penned within the outpost. Identifying these elements is crucial for formulating your attack plan.

High Ground Advantage: Seek out elevated positions surrounding the Garrison. These often provide excellent vantage points for tagging enemies and initiating stealth takedowns with your Bow or the Kobracon sniper rifle.
Alarm Systems: Prioritize disabling alarms. Each Garrison typically has 1-3 alarms, often marked with a red siren icon. Destroying these prevents reinforcements from being called, making the engagement significantly easier. A well-placed explosive (like a Grenade or C4) or a silenced headshot from a distance with your Kobracon is ideal.

Stealthy Infiltration and Takedowns

For maximum efficiency and the "Silent Hunter" bonus (extra cash and XP), a stealthy approach is highly recommended. This involves eliminating enemies without alerting the entire Garrison.

Melee Takedowns: The most silent method of elimination. Approach enemies from behind and press the melee button for a quick, silent kill. use environmental cover to break line of sight.
Silenced Weapons:
- Bow: Excellent for silent, long-range headshots. Arrows can be retrieved from fallen enemies, making it resource-efficient.
- Kobracon (Silenced): Once you acquire the silenced upgrade, this sniper rifle becomes invaluable for picking off isolated enemies or alarm systems from a distance without drawing attention. Aim for headshots for instant kills.
Distraction Tactics: Throwing rocks (default 'G' key on PC) can divert enemy patrols, allowing you to bypass them or set up a stealth takedown.
Environmental Hazards: Look for opportunities to use the environment to your advantage. Shooting explosive barrels near groups of enemies can clear them out quickly, though this will likely alert the Garrison.

Blood Dragons are powerful allies if used correctly. Many Garrisons have one or more Blood Dragons penned within their perimeter. These creatures are hostile to everyone, including you, but can be manipulated to clear out enemy forces.

Releasing the Beast: Shoot the gates or fences holding a Blood Dragon captive. Once free, it will rampage through the Garrison, attacking any Omega Force soldiers it encounters.
The Cyber-Heart: If you have a Cyber-Heart in your inventory (obtained from defeated Blood Dragons), you can throw it to lure a Blood Dragon to a specific location or to distract it while you deal with human enemies. This is particularly effective for drawing a Dragon into a heavily fortified area.
Caution: Remember that Blood Dragons will also attack you. Keep your distance and be prepared to engage them if they turn their attention towards Rex.

Direct Assault (Last Resort)

If stealth fails or you prefer a more direct approach, be prepared for a heavy firefight. Ensure you have plenty of ammunition and healing items (Syringes).

Heavy Weapons: The Fazertron (Assault Rifle), Flamethrower, and Grenade Launcher are excellent for clearing out groups of enemies quickly.
Cover System: use the environment for cover to avoid incoming fire. Pop out, shoot, and retreat to reload or heal.
Turrets: If alarms were not disabled, enemy turrets can be devastating. Prioritize destroying them with explosives or heavy weapon fire. Alternatively, you can often commandeer them yourself for a brief period of overwhelming firepower.
