Vehicle Combat
While Rex "Power" Colt is a one-man army, sometimes the best way to deal with Omega Force's relentless onslaught is from behind the wheel of a weaponized vehicle. Mastering vehicle combat can turn the tide in many encounters, especially when traversing the dangerous open world or assaulting heavily fortified garrisons.
Types of Vehicles & Their Armaments
- Utility Truck (Technical): These common vehicles are often found patrolling roads or parked near outposts.
- Armament: Mounted .50 Caliber Machine Gun. This weapon offers a high rate of fire and decent stopping power against infantry and other light vehicles.
- Strategy: Ideal for mowing down groups of basic Omega Force soldiers or quickly dispatching unarmored vehicles. Aim for the driver or gunner of enemy vehicles to neutralize them swiftly.
- Patrol Boat: Less common, but essential for water-based engagements.
- Armament: Mounted Grenade Launcher. This weapon fires explosive projectiles, excellent for destroying enemy boats, damaging larger vehicles, or clearing out clustered enemies on shorelines.
- Strategy: Keep your distance from enemy boats and use the grenade launcher's splash damage to your advantage. Be mindful of the projectile arc.
- Quad Bike: While not directly weaponized, the Quad Bike's speed and maneuverability make it a valuable tool for hit-and-run tactics.
- Strategy: Use its speed to quickly close distances or escape dangerous situations. You can fire your personal weapons while driving, making it effective for drive-by attacks on unsuspecting enemies or for quickly eliminating individual targets.
General Vehicle Combat Strategies
- Prioritize Targets: When engaging multiple enemies, always prioritize enemy vehicles with mounted weapons first. Their sustained fire can quickly deplete your vehicle's health.
- Maintain Distance: For the Utility Truck and Patrol Boat, try to keep a medium distance from your targets. This allows you to effectively use your mounted weapons without being overwhelmed by close-quarters infantry fire or enemy grenades.
- Exploit Environmental Hazards: Look for explosive barrels or other environmental hazards near enemy positions. A well-placed shot from your vehicle's weapon can trigger a chain reaction, clearing out multiple enemies.
- Bail Out & Repair: If your vehicle takes significant damage, don't hesitate to bail out (press the designated button, usually
Square/X). Find cover, eliminate immediate threats, and then repair your vehicle using your repair kit. Remember, you can only repair a vehicle if it's not actively under fire. - Road Rage: Don't underestimate the power of simply ramming smaller enemy vehicles or infantry. This can be an effective way to clear paths or deal quick damage, especially with the more robust Utility Truck.
- Mounted Turrets: When assaulting garrisons, be wary of fixed mounted turrets. These can shred your vehicle quickly. Prioritize taking out the gunner with your mounted weapon or a well-aimed sniper shot before approaching.
Advanced Tactics
- The "Bait and Switch": If you're being pursued by multiple enemy vehicles, lead them towards a Blood Dragon patrol route. The dragons will often engage anything that moves, providing a chaotic distraction for you to escape or turn the tables.
- Vehicle Swapping: If your current vehicle is heavily damaged and you spot an intact enemy vehicle, consider quickly swapping. This is faster than repairing in the heat of battle and provides fresh firepower.
- Explosive Barrel Placement: Before engaging a garrison, if you have access to explosive barrels (often found near outposts), you can strategically place them near enemy vehicle spawn points or heavy weapon emplacements. Then, trigger them from a safe distance with your vehicle's weapons.
