The Doctor Is Out
The Doctor Is Out is a pivotal mission that sees Jason Brody racing against time to rescue Dr. Earnhardt from the clutches of Hoyt Volker's privateers. This mission is a tense blend of stealth, close-quarters combat, and objective-based navigation, demanding careful planning and execution. Success hinges on your ability to infiltrate a heavily fortified enemy stronghold, neutralize threats efficiently, and ensure the doctor's safe extraction.
Mission Briefing & Objectives
Your primary objective is to locate and rescue Dr. Earnhardt from a privateer-controlled compound. The mission will then transition into an escort or defense sequence, requiring you to protect the doctor as you make your escape. Expect high enemy presence and a layout designed to funnel you into direct confrontations if stealth fails.
Recommended Loadout
- Primary Weapon (Stealth): Recurve Bow (with Marksman Sight and Extended Magazine for arrows) or M-700 Sniper Rifle (suppressed). Essential for silent takedowns from a distance.
- Secondary Weapon (Close Quarters): SPAS-12 Shotgun or M133 Shotgun (with extended magazine). The SPAS-12 is particularly effective due to its higher fire rate and damage, crucial for the inevitable close-range encounters.
- Sidearm: 1911 Pistol (suppressed). A reliable backup for stealth takedowns or finishing off weakened enemies.
- Explosives: Frag Grenades and C4. Useful for clearing groups of enemies or disabling vehicles if the situation escalates.
- Special Items: Healing Syringes (at least 5-7), Hunter's Instinct Syringes (for spotting enemies through cover), and Deep Dive Syringes (if you plan on using underwater approaches).
Infiltration Strategy: The Privateer Compound
The privateer compound where Dr. Earnhardt is held is located on the eastern side of the northern island, specifically in the area known as "The Old Mine". It's a multi-tiered facility with several entry points, patrolled by various enemy types.
- Initial Reconnaissance:
- Approach the compound from the north or east. The northern approach often provides higher ground overlooking the main entrance and the outer perimeter.
- use your camera to tag all visible enemies. Pay close attention to Heavy Flamethrower Privateers, Snipers positioned on watchtowers, and Guard Dogs.
- Identify patrol routes and potential environmental hazards like explosive barrels or fuel tanks. There are several red barrels near the main gate and within the central courtyard.
- Stealth Entry (Recommended):
- Northern Perimeter (Preferred): There's a less guarded section of the fence on the northern side, often near a small cliff face. Use a silent takedown on any lone patrol here.
- Underwater Approach (Alternative): If you approach from the east, there's a small inlet leading to a drainage pipe that can provide a stealthy entry into the lower levels of the compound. Be wary of a single patrol near the pipe's exit.
- Eliminate Snipers First: Prioritize taking out any snipers on elevated positions (e.g., the watchtower near the main gate) using your suppressed sniper rifle or bow. This removes a significant threat to your stealth.
- use Environmental Distractions: Throw rocks to lure individual privateers away from their groups for silent takedowns. Shoot out lights to create darker areas for cover.
- Navigating the Compound:
- The compound is structured with an outer perimeter, a central courtyard, and an inner building where Dr. Earnhardt is held.
- Outer Perimeter: Primarily patrolled by standard Privateer Soldiers and occasionally a Guard Dog. Use bushes and cover to move undetected.
- Central Courtyard: This area is heavily guarded, often featuring a Heavy Privateer (shotgun or LMG variant) and multiple standard soldiers. There's a generator in the center that can be shot to create a distraction or disable lights, making stealth easier.
- Inner Building: Dr. Earnhardt is typically found on the ground floor or a slightly elevated platform within the main building. Expect 2-3 privateers guarding his immediate vicinity.
- Dealing with Specific Enemy Types:
- Standard Privateers: Easy to dispatch with silent takedowns or headshots.
- Guard Dogs: Extremely dangerous in stealth. They can detect you easily. Prioritize them with a silent headshot from a distance.
- Heavy Privateers (Flamethrower/LMG): These enemies are immune to headshots and require multiple body shots or explosives. If stealth is maintained, try to bypass them. If combat is unavoidable, aim for their fuel tanks (flamethrower) or use C4.
- Snipers: Always eliminate first. They have long sightlines and can quickly compromise your position.
Rescuing Dr. Earnhardt
Once you reach Dr. Earnhardt, a brief cutscene will play. He will be disoriented and vulnerable. Your next task is to get him to safety.
- Clear the Immediate Area: After the cutscene, quickly eliminate any remaining privateers in the room or just outside.
- Escort/Defense Sequence:
- The mission will transition into an escort phase. Dr. Earnhardt will slowly follow you. You must lead him out of the compound.
- Expect reinforcements to arrive once the alarm is raised (if it wasn't already). Privateer Jeeps and ATVs may attempt to block your escape route.
- Escape Route: The most direct escape is usually through the main gate, but this will be heavily contested. An alternative is to backtrack through the compound, potentially using the northern perimeter exit or even the underwater pipe if you can guide the doctor through it (though this can be tricky).
- Protect the Doctor: Dr. Earnhardt has a health bar. If it depletes, the mission fails. Stay between him and incoming fire. Use cover effectively.
- Close-Quarters Combat: This is where your SPAS-12 or M133 shotgun will shine. Many privateers will attempt to rush your position.
- Reaching Safety:
- Guide Dr. Earnhardt to the designated safe zone, usually a short distance outside the compound. This will trigger another cutscene and complete the mission.
Common Pitfalls & Tips
- Alarm Management: If the alarm is raised, the compound will be swarmed with reinforcements. While not impossible, it makes the mission significantly harder, especially during the escort phase. Prioritize stealth.
- Heavy Privateers: Do not engage Heavy Privateers in a direct firefight unless absolutely necessary. Use explosives or bypass them.
- Environmental Hazards: use explosive barrels and fuel tanks to your advantage. A well-placed shot can clear multiple enemies or create a diversion.
- Healing: Always keep a few healing syringes ready. The privateers hit hard, and Dr. Earnhardt's health is fragile.
- Patience: Take your time with reconnaissance and enemy tagging. Rushing in will almost certainly lead to a failed stealth attempt and a difficult firefight.
