Saving your game in Final Fantasy IX is crucial for preserving progress, especially before significant events or challenging battles. Moogles often serve as save points, and interacting with them also allows access to Mognet for letters. Strategic saving can help manage missable content, such as specific ATEs or items, ensuring you don't miss out on valuable rewards or story elements.
Saving Your Game and Key Decisions
You can save your game with the moogle in the room where you first saw Zidane in the castle, after finding Blutzen and Kohel. This room is to the right at the bottom of the stairs leading to Queen Brahne. While there, check Mognet for a letter from Kupo to Mosh if you achieved 50+ jumps in the jump rope mini-game. A Phoenix Down is also located in the bottom left corner of this room, by the foot of the bed.
Treno Auction and Vivi's Choice
In Treno, visit the auction for new items. Feather Boots and the Anklet are sold if you don't already own them. The Dark Matter, which teaches Odin to Dagger, costs around 19,000 Gil and is the only way to obtain it outside of the superboss. After a scene in Treno, you'll control Zidane. View the ATEs Eiko Talks Life and How He Ended Up Here. Vivi's choice to visit home or stay in Treno affects which ATE you see, but this shouldn't impact the Movie Critic trophy/achievement. For this walkthrough, Vivi visits home for an extra scene.
Finding the Pluto Knights and Rewards
After the sword fight mini-game with Blank, speak to Queen Brahne on the balcony to receive a Moonstone for impressing 100 nobles. To get a free Elixir, find and speak to all eight Pluto Knights scattered around the castle. Blutzen and Kohel are in the room where Zidane first appeared.
South Gate and Chocobo Hot and Cold
Before entering the Chocobo's Forest, head to the South Gate east of the forest. Search along the right-hand side, along the tree branch, to find Moccha Coffee. This is needed for the Rare Coffees side quest, which contributes to the My Little Airship trophy/achievement. Inside the Chocobo's Forest, Mene will give you Gysahl Greens. Use them on the chocobo tracks just south of the forest to begin the Chocobo Hot and Cold mini-game.
