Individual GF Guides

Each Guardian Force (GF) in Final Fantasy VIII Remastered offers a unique set of abilities that can dramatically enhance your party's power. Understanding the strengths and acquisition methods of each GF is crucial for effective character progression. This section provides a detailed look at individual GFs, their learnable abilities, and strategic uses.

Guardian Forces are acquired through story progression, by defeating them in battle, or via specific items and side quests. Once acquired, they gain AP (Ability Points) in battle, allowing them to learn several abilities. These abilities are categorized into Stat Junctions, Command Abilities, Support Abilities, and GF Abilities. Prioritizing which abilities to learn first is key to optimizing your party.

Key GFs and Their Guides:

  • Quetzalcoatl: Acquired early in Balamb Garden. Essential for early game stat boosts like HP-J and Str-J. Also learns 'Scan', vital for identifying enemy weaknesses.
  • Shiva: Obtained during the Dollet mission. A strong early offensive GF, learning 'Mag-J' and 'Blizzaga'.

When focusing on ability learning, prioritize the 'Junction' abilities first, as they are the most impactful for character stat boosts.
