Advanced Combat Techniques — Final Fantasy XVI Guide

Learn advanced combat in Final Fantasy XVI. Master the Precision Dodge and Titanic Block for counter-attacks and Eikon ability weaving into combos.

Precision Dodge & Counter

Mastering the Precision Dodge (R1 at the last moment) is paramount. It slows down time, allows for a free counter-attack, and builds the Limit Break gauge. Practice this against every enemy type. Combine it with 'Titanic Block' for even more defensive options and counter-opportunities.

Eikon Ability Weaving

Don't just spam Eikon abilities. Weave them into your sword combos. For example, a full sword combo can be interrupted by an Eikon ability, and then you can resume the combo. This maximizes damage output and keeps the pressure on enemies.

Stagger Management

The stagger gauge is your most important tool against tough enemies and bosses. Focus on abilities that quickly build stagger (e.g., Garuda's 'Gouge', Shiva's 'Diamond Dust'). Once an enemy is staggered, unleash your highest damage abilities (e.g., Bahamut's 'Gigaflare', Titan's 'Upheaval', Odin's 'Zantetsuken').

Aerial Combat

Many enemies can be launched into the air with abilities like 'Rising Flame' (Phoenix) or 'Wicked Wheel' (Garuda). Aerial combos keep enemies from attacking you and can extend stagger duration. Practice juggling enemies for maximum damage.
