Stat Boosters (Tonics, Dracoshields)
Stat boosters in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest are consumable items that provide permanent increases to a unit's base stats. These items are invaluable for fine-tuning your army's performance, patching up weaknesses, or pushing strong units to their absolute limits. The primary stat boosters include Tonics, which increase individual stats like Strength, Magic, Skill, Speed, Luck, Defense, and Resistance by 2 points. There are also specific items like the Dracoshield, which permanently increases Defense and Resistance by 4 points.
The strategic application of stat boosters can significantly alter the outcome of battles. For instance, if a unit consistently struggles to double-attack due to low Speed, using a Speed Tonic can provide the necessary boost. Similarly, if a unit is vulnerable to magical attacks, increasing their Resistance with a Resistance Tonic can make them more survivable. These items are often found in treasure chests, dropped by specific enemies, or purchased from the Armory in limited quantities. each stat booster can only be used once per unit, so careful consideration of which unit receives which booster is paramount.
When deciding which units to bestow these precious stat boosters upon, prioritize those that will be the most consistently deployed and have the greatest potential for growth. Units like the Avatar, who can be reclassed into various classes, are excellent candidates for stat boosters as their utility can be maximized across different roles. For example, if you plan to reclass the Avatar into a Wyvern Lord, boosting their Strength and Defense with Strength Tonics and Dracoshields would be highly beneficial. Conversely, a unit like Peri, who has high Speed but lower Defense, might benefit more from a Defense Tonic to shore up her survivability.
The limited availability of these items means that not every unit can receive every booster. Therefore, it's wise to identify your "carry" units – those who will be instrumental in clearing difficult maps. For example, if you find yourself struggling against powerful magic users in chapters like Chapter 15, a unit that has received multiple Resistance Tonics will be significantly more effective. Consider the base growth rates of your units as well. If a unit naturally has high Defense growth, a Dracoshield might be better allocated to a unit with lower Defense growth but a more critical role in your army. The goal is to create a synergistic army where each unit's strengths are amplified and weaknesses are mitigated through careful stat management.
