Chapter 7: A Great Divide
Chapter 7 introduces players to the critical consequences of unit management and the various game modes available in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Understanding how character deaths are handled is key to planning your approach, whether you're aiming for a flawless run or learning the ropes.
In this chapter, the game reinforces the importance of its core mechanics regarding unit survival. Main protagonists, often called Lord characters, cannot permanently die. If a Lord character's health points reach zero, they will suffer a crippling injury, removing them from combat for the remainder of the map but allowing them to continue their role in the story. This prevents an immediate Game Over from the loss of a central character.
For other units, the impact of defeat depends on your chosen difficulty:
- Classic Mode: Units defeated in Chapter 7 are permanently removed from your roster. This traditional mode requires careful positioning and strategic retreats to preserve your forces.
- Casual Mode: If playing on Casual Mode, any unit defeated in Chapter 7 will be available again in the subsequent chapter. This mode is designed to reduce difficulty and allow players to experiment with strategies without the fear of permanent loss.
- Phoenix Mode: In Phoenix Mode, a defeated unit will return to the battle on the very next turn with full health. This highly forgiving mode is intended for players new to strategy RPGs, allowing them to recover quickly from tactical errors.
Additionally, be aware of any Non-Player Characters (NPCs) present in Chapter 7. If an NPC whose survival is critical to the mission objective is defeated, it will result in a Game Over, similar to the defeat of a Lord character. Prioritize protecting these key allies.
If you have lost a significant number of units in previous chapters, a Gaiden chapter (side chapter) might become available after Chapter 7, similar to those in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. These chapters offer opportunities to recruit new characters to bolster your ranks.
