Drivatars are intelligent AI drivers that learn from the real-world driving habits of your friends and other players in the Forza community. This means every Drivatar you encounter has a unique personality and racing style, making each race feel dynamic and unpredictable.
What are Drivatars?
At its core, a Drivatar is a digital representation of a real player's driving style. When you play Forza Horizon 2, the game constantly analyzes your braking points, cornering speeds, acceleration, and even how aggressively you drive. This data is then uploaded to the cloud and used to create a Drivatar that mimics your tendencies. When your friends or other players race, your Drivatar might appear in their events, driving just like you would!
- Personalized Opponents: Drivatars provide a more authentic and varied racing experience compared to traditional AI. You'll notice some Drivatars are aggressive, some are cautious, and others might even make mistakes, just like human drivers.
- Earning Credits Offline: One of the coolest features is that your Drivatar can earn credits for you even when you're not playing! If your Drivatar competes in races in other players' games and performs well, you'll receive a notification and a credit bonus the next time you log in. This is a fantastic way to passively accumulate wealth for new cars and upgrades.
- Dynamic Difficulty: Drivatars adapt to your skill level. The game's difficulty settings (found in the Settings menu under Difficulty) influence how challenging the Drivatars are, but their underlying driving styles remain true to their real-world counterparts.
Managing Your Drivatar Experience
While Drivatars are designed to enhance your gameplay, you have some control over their presence and difficulty:
Adjusting Drivatar Difficulty
To fine-tune the challenge, navigate to the Settings menu from the pause screen. Select Difficulty. Here, you'll find the "Drivatar Difficulty" slider. We recommend experimenting with these settings to find your sweet spot:
- New Racer: For those just starting out or looking for a more relaxed experience.
- Average: A balanced challenge for most players.
- Highly Skilled: Drivatars will be more competitive and make fewer errors.
- Pro: Expect fierce competition and near-perfect driving lines.
- Unbeatable: Only for the most seasoned Horizon veterans. Drivatars will be incredibly fast and precise.
Remember, changing the Drivatar Difficulty also affects the credit bonus you receive from races. Higher difficulties yield greater rewards!
Controlling Drivatar Appearance
While you can't completely remove Drivatars, you can influence whose Drivatars appear in your game:
- Friends List Priority: The game prioritizes Drivatars from your Xbox Live friends list. The more friends you have playing Forza Horizon 2, the more likely you are to encounter their Drivatars.
- Blocking Players: If you consistently find a particular Drivatar's driving style frustrating or overly aggressive, you can block the associated player on Xbox Live. This will prevent their Drivatar from appearing in your game.
- Offline Play: If you play offline, the game will generate generic Drivatars based on a broader pool of player data, rather than specifically from your friends list.
Strategies for Racing Against Drivatars
Successfully navigating races against Drivatars requires a slightly different approach than traditional AI:
- Anticipate Their Moves: Since Drivatars mimic human behavior, they can be unpredictable. Watch their lines into corners, their braking points, and be prepared for sudden changes in direction, especially in tight packs.
- Exploit Weaknesses: Pay attention to individual Drivatar tendencies. Some might be slow out of corners, others might brake too early. Identify these weaknesses and use them to your advantage for overtakes.
- Aggression vs. Precision: While some Drivatars can be aggressive, ramming them excessively can lead to penalties or simply slow you down. A blend of precise driving and well-timed, clean overtakes is usually the most effective strategy.
- Learn from Them: Sometimes, a Drivatar might take an optimal line you hadn't considered. Observe their techniques, especially on unfamiliar tracks, and incorporate them into your own driving.
