Collectibles Guide

Beyond the thrill of the race, Forza Horizon 2 offers a rich world brimming with hidden treasures. Hunting down these collectibles not only adds to your completion percentage but also unlocks unique cars and valuable XP. This detailed guide will help you uncover every secret across the beautiful European landscape.

Barn Finds

Barn Finds are arguably the most exciting collectibles in Forza Horizon 2. These hidden gems are classic, rare, and often highly sought-after vehicles waiting to be restored. The process involves a bit of exploration and patience, but the reward of adding a vintage masterpiece to your garage is well worth the effort.

How Barn Finds Work:

  1. Receive a Rumor: driving around the map and completing events, you'll occasionally receive a "Barn Find Rumor" from the Horizon Festival radio or your GPS. This rumor will highlight a general circular search area on your map.
  2. Locate the Barn: Head to the indicated search area. The barns are usually old, dilapidated structures, often tucked away in dense foliage, behind buildings, or off the main roads. Keep your eyes peeled for distinctive red or brown wooden barns.
  3. Search Thoroughly: Drive slowly through the search area, paying close attention to your surroundings. The game will often provide an audio cue (a distinct "ping") and a visual notification when you are close to the barn. Sometimes, you'll need to venture off-road, through fields, or down dirt tracks to find them.
  4. Enter and Claim: Once you find the barn, drive up to its entrance. A cutscene will trigger, revealing the hidden car inside.
  5. Restoration Process: After discovery, the car is sent to the Horizon Festival mechanics for restoration. This process takes time, but you'll be notified when your newly restored classic is ready to be added to your garage, free of charge!

General Tips for Barn Finds:

  • Listen to the Radio: Pay attention to the in-game radio chatter. Barn Find rumors are often broadcast, giving you a heads-up on new search areas.
  • Use the Map: When a rumor appears, a purple circle will be drawn on your map. Zoom in and plan your search route within this area.
  • Off-Roading is Key: Many barns are not directly accessible from paved roads. Don't be afraid to leave the tarmac and explore fields, forests, and dirt paths.
  • Look for Landmarks: Barns are often near distinctive landmarks like abandoned farmhouses, small clusters of trees, or unique rock formations.
  • Day vs. Night: While barns can be found at any time, searching during the day can make it easier to spot them in dense environments.
  • Patience Pays Off: Some barns are exceptionally well hidden. If you're struggling, take a break and come back, or try approaching the search area from different directions.

There are a total of 10 Barn Finds scattered across the Forza Horizon 2 map. Each one unlocks a unique and often iconic vehicle, adding significant value and variety to your car collection.

Bonus Boards

Bonus Boards are another type of collectible that rewards you with either XP or a discount on Fast Travel. There are two types of Bonus Boards:

XP Boards

  • Purpose: Grant instant experience points (XP) upon destruction. These are crucial for leveling up and earning Wheelspins.
  • Quantity: There are 150 XP Boards located throughout the map.
  • Strategy:
    1. Map Markers: XP Boards appear as small blue icons on your map once you've driven close enough to reveal them.
    2. High-Speed Destruction: Most XP Boards are placed in locations that encourage high-speed jumps, drifts, or off-road excursions. Look for them on rooftops, behind buildings, at the end of ramps, or in dense forest areas.
    3. Rewind Feature: Don't be afraid to use the rewind feature if you miss a jump or can't quite reach a board. It's an invaluable tool for precision collecting.
    4. Aerial Views: Sometimes, approaching a board from a higher elevation or using a ramp is the only way to smash it.

Fast Travel Discount Boards

  • Purpose: Each board you smash reduces the cost of Fast Travel. Smashing all of them makes Fast Travel completely free.
  • Quantity: There are 50 Fast Travel Discount Boards across the map.
  • Strategy:
    1. Map Markers: These boards appear as small purple icons on your map.
    2. Strategic Placement: Fast Travel Discount Boards are often placed in more challenging-to-reach locations than XP Boards, requiring precise driving, jumps, or even some creative off-roading.
    3. Prioritize Early: Collecting these boards early in your game can save you a significant amount of credits on Fast Travel fees, especially when you're frequently moving between event locations.
    4. Explore Every Corner: Many are hidden in less-traveled areas, so explore every road and off-road path.

General Tips for Bonus Boards:

  • Zoom In on the Map: When you see a board icon, zoom in on your map to get a better sense of its exact location and potential approach routes.
  • Look for Ramps and Jumps: Many boards are placed to be hit via a jump. Keep an eye out for natural terrain features or man-made ramps.
  • Use Drone Mode: If you're struggling to find a board, enter Drone Mode (accessible from the pause menu) to fly around and scout the area from above. This can reveal hidden paths or jump opportunities.
  • Mark on GPS: Once you spot a board on your map, set a custom waypoint to it. The GPS will guide you to the nearest road, but you'll often need to deviate to reach the board itself.
  • Complete Road Discovery: As you discover more roads, more board icons will appear on your map, making them easier to track down.
