Spawning and Using Weapons
Weapons are a fundamental part of many Garry's Mod experiences, from chaotic sandbox battles to structured gamemodes. The game provides a basic set of firearms, but the true breadth of weaponry comes from the vast array of addons available on the Steam Workshop, offering everything from realistic firearms to fantastical energy weapons and melee implements.
To spawn weapons, you'll use the spawn menu, accessed by pressing 'Q' by default. Navigate to the 'Weapons' tab. Here, you'll find the default Garry's Mod weapons, such as the Pistol, SMG, Shotgun, and Rocket Launcher. If you have subscribed to weapon addons, they will appear in their own categories or integrated into existing ones, often clearly labeled with the addon's name.
Once you've selected a weapon, simply left-click in the game world to spawn it as a pickup item. You can then walk over it to pick it up and equip it. If you're in a single-player or non-PvP environment, you can also spawn weapons directly into your inventory using console commands or specific admin tools.
Using weapons involves standard first-person shooter controls:
- Left Mouse Button: Fire the weapon.
- Right Mouse Button: Alternate fire mode (if available, e.g., aiming down sights, secondary fire).
- R Key: Reload the weapon.
- Mouse Wheel: Cycle through your equipped weapons.
- Number Keys (1-9): Directly select a specific weapon from your inventory.
Many weapon addons introduce unique features, such as:
- Custom Animations: Unique firing, reloading, and inspect animations.
- Special Fire Modes: Burst fire, full auto, or unique projectile types.
- Attachments: Scopes, silencers, and grips that can be added.
- Sound Effects: Realistic or custom sounds for firing, reloading, and impacts.
When exploring weapon addons, always check their descriptions for installation instructions, required dependencies (like specific games or other addons), and usage details. Experimenting with different weapon packs can drastically change the combat dynamics of your Garry's Mod sessions.
