Playermodels
Playermodels, also known as player models or PMMs, are the visual representations of players in Garry's Mod. They determine how your character looks to other players and can range from iconic characters from other games to entirely original creations. Custom playermodels are a cornerstone of the Garry's Mod community, allowing for immense personalization and roleplaying opportunities.
By default, Garry's Mod includes a selection of playermodels, often featuring characters from Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. However, the true appeal lies in the vast number of custom playermodels available on the Steam Workshop. These can be anything from characters from popular franchises like Team Fortress 2 or Fallout, to original dess and even meme-inspired figures.
Finding and Installing Playermodels:
- Steam Workshop: The primary source for custom playermodels. Search for 'playermodel' or specific character names.
- Subscription: Click the 'Subscribe' button on a Workshop item to download it. The game will automatically install it.
- In-Game Selection: Once subscribed, playermodels can usually be selected from the 'Playermodel Selector' in the spawn menu or through specific gamemode interfaces.
Features of Playermodels:
- Custom Models: Unique visual appearance for your character.
- Bodygroups: Some playermodels allow you to change parts of the model, such as armor, helmets, or accessories.
- Skins/Colors: The ability to change the color or texture of the playermodel, often through the Material Tool or specific model options.
- Animations: While most playermodels use the default Garry's Mod animations, some may have custom animations.
Popular Playermodel Examples:
- TF2 Playermodels: Characters like the Spy and Engineer from Team Fortress 2 are popular choices, often with customizable bodygroups.
- Fallout Playermodels: The NCR Ranger Redux offers a detailed character from the Fallout universe.
- Character Models: Figures like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho or Cleveland Brown from Family Guy add unique flavor.
When choosing playermodels, consider compatibility with different gamemodes and potential performance impacts. Some highly detailed models might require more system resources. Additionally, ensure that any playermodel you download is from a reputable source to avoid malicious addons.
Playermodels are a key aspect of roleplaying and personal expression in Garry's Mod, allowing players to embody their desired characters and enhance the immersion of their gameplay experiences.
