Role Progression (Legends Mode)
Advance your chosen class to its full potential in Legends Mode by understanding role progression. This section details how to earn experience, level up your Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin, and unlock powerful new abilities and perks that define your legend.
In Ghost of Tsushima's Legends Mode, each of the four classes—Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, and Assassin—has its own progression system. Leveling up your class unlocks new abilities, perks, and stat bonuses, significantly enhancing your effectiveness in combat and support roles. Achieving Rank 20 in any role is required for the 'Self-Actualized' achievement, and Rank 20 with all roles for 'Ultimate Warrior'.
Earning Experience (XP):
Experience points are awarded for completing various activities within Legends Mode:
- Story Missions: Completing Story missions, especially on higher difficulties (Bronze, Silver, Gold), grants substantial XP. The first story mission, 'Severed Hearts', is often recommended for efficient farming due to its speed.
- Survival Missions: Successfully defending waves of enemies in Survival mode provides a steady stream of XP.
- Rivals Matches: Participating in and winning Rivals matches also contributes to your class experience.
- Completing Objectives: Successfully completing mission objectives and bonus objectives grants additional XP.
Class Leveling and Unlocks:
As you gain XP, your class level increases. Each level gained typically grants you a Technique Point, which can be spent to unlock new abilities or upgrade existing ones. These abilities are class-specific and define your playstyle.

Fastest Progression Strategy:
The most efficient way to reach Rank 20 in a class is to repeatedly play the first Story mission, 'Severed Hearts', on the highest difficulty you can comfortably complete quickly. Once you unlock Gold difficulty Story missions, leveling becomes significantly faster. Aim to complete these missions in 6-8 minutes each.
By focusing on completing missions and strategically investing your Technique Points, you will quickly level up your chosen class and unlock the powerful abilities needed to conquer the challenges of Legends Mode.
