Custom Setlists

While the main career mode offers a fantastic journey through the world of rock, Guitar Hero II Arcade also provides the incredible flexibility of creating your own custom setlists. This feature is perfect for honing specific skills, practicing challenging songs back-to-back, or simply enjoying your favorite tracks without interruption. Mastering custom setlists can significantly improve your overall performance and enjoyment of the game.

Accessing the Custom Setlist Creator

To begin crafting your personalized concert experience, follow these steps:

  1. From the main menu, navigate to the "Play" option.
  2. Select "Custom Setlist" from the sub-menu. This will bring you to the setlist creation interface.

Building Your Setlist

The custom setlist interface is intuitive, allowing you to easily add and arrange songs. You'll have access to the entire library of unlocked songs, including both main game tracks and any bonus songs you've purchased or earned.

  • Adding Songs: On the left side of the screen, you'll see a comprehensive list of all available songs. Use the joystick to highlight a song and press the green fret button to add it to your setlist. Each song added will appear on the right side of the screen, indicating its position in your custom concert.
  • Removing Songs: If you've added a song by mistake or simply changed your mind, highlight the song in your current setlist (on the right side) and press the red fret button. This will remove it from the list.
  • Reordering Songs: To change the play order of your chosen tracks, highlight a song in your setlist and use the yellow or blue fret buttons to move it up or down, respectively. This allows for strategic placement, such as putting warm-up songs first or grouping challenging tracks together for focused practice.
  • Setlist Length: You can create setlists ranging from a single song to a maximum of ten songs. Consider your practice goals or desired play session length when determining the number of tracks.

Strategic Setlist Creation

Custom setlists aren't just for casual play; they're powerful tools for improvement. Here are some strategies to consider:

  • Difficulty Progression: Start with easier songs to warm up, then gradually increase the difficulty. This mimics a natural learning curve and helps build confidence.
  • Targeted Practice: If you're struggling with specific techniques (e.g., hammer-ons/pull-offs, fast strumming, complex solos), create a setlist of songs that heavily feature those elements. Repeated exposure in a focused environment can lead to rapid improvement.
  • Genre Focus: Want to master metal riffs or shred through classic rock anthems? Build a setlist around a particular genre to immerse yourself in its unique playing styles.
  • Score Attack: For competitive players, create a setlist of your highest-scoring songs to practice maintaining combos and maximizing star power deployment across multiple tracks.
  • Warm-up/Cool-down: Design a short setlist of familiar, comfortable songs to get your fingers ready before a serious career mode session, or to wind down after an intense play.

Starting Your Custom Concert

Once you're satisfied with your custom setlist, ensure the first song in the sequence is highlighted. Then, press the orange fret button (or the Start button, depending on the arcade cabinet's configuration) to begin your personalized Guitar Hero II experience. The game will seamlessly transition from one song to the next, just like a real concert.

Remember, custom setlists are all about tailoring the game to your preferences. Experiment with different combinations and strategies to get the most out of your Guitar Hero II Arcade sessions!
