Objective 2: Craft a Basic Workbench
The Basic Workbench is a cornerstone of your early progression in Havendock, acting as your primary crafting station for a wide array of essential tools and structures. Without it, your ability to build anything beyond the most rudimentary items is severely limited. To begin crafting, you must first construct this vital piece of equipment. Open your crafting menu, which is typically accessed by pressing the 'C' key. Within the crafting interface, navigate to the 'Structures' tab, where you will find the 'Basic Workbench' listed. The materials required for its construction are 4x Logs and 2x Scrap Metal.
Both of these resources are readily available in the early stages of the game. Logs can be obtained by breaking down floating debris or by harvesting any trees present on your starting platform. Scrap Metal is also commonly found amongst the wreckage that drifts towards your raft. Once you have accumulated the necessary Logs and Scrap Metal, you can proceed to craft the Basic Workbench. After it is crafted, you will need to place it on your raft platform. Choose a location that is easily accessible and provides sufficient space for you to interact with it comfortably.
Once built and placed, the Basic Workbench unlocks a significant portion of Havendock's crafting possibilities. It is here that you will create your first farming tools, such as the Farm Plot, and more advanced building components. The Basic Workbench is not just a static object; it is the gateway to expanding your capabilities and improving the quality of life for your survivors. Mastering its use and understanding the recipes it unlocks is fundamental to establishing a self-sufficient and growing settlement.
