Level Overviews
Mansion
The Mansion level serves as an excellent introduction to the core mechanics of Human: Fall Flat, emphasizing environmental interaction and basic puzzle-solving. Your primary goal here is to navigate through the manor and ultimately escape.
Initial Ascent and First Door
- Starting Point: You begin in a small, enclosed room.
- Action: Look for a wooden crate near the wall. Grab it with both hands (LMB/RMB on PC, L2/R2 on console) and pull it towards the wall directly beneath the open window.
- Strategy: Climb onto the crate, then jump and grab the ledge of the window. Pull yourself up to exit the room.
- Next Step: You'll find yourself in a hallway. Proceed forward until you reach a closed wooden door.
- Action: The door is locked. To open it, locate the small, circular handle on the door. Grab it and pull it towards you. If it resists, try wiggling it or pulling with both hands.
The Courtyard and Wall Climb
- Area: Beyond the first door, you'll enter an open courtyard with a large wall blocking your path.
- Item: To the left, near a small fountain, you'll spot another wooden crate.
- Strategy: Drag this crate to the base of the tall wall. Position it carefully so you can use it as a stepping stone.
- Action: Climb onto the crate, then jump and grab the top of the wall. Pull yourself over. This requires good timing and arm extension.
The Lever Puzzle
- Location: After scaling the wall, you'll find yourself on a balcony overlooking a lower area. There's a mechanism with a large lever.
- Objective: Activating this lever will open the main gate, allowing you to progress.
- Action: Approach the lever. Grab it firmly with one hand.
- Strategy: To pull the lever down, you might need to lean your character's body weight into the pull. Sometimes, jumping while pulling can provide extra leverage. Once pulled, the gate below will open.
Train
The Train level introduces more dynamic elements and requires precise platforming and object manipulation, often under the constraint of movement. The goal is to navigate through the various train cars and reach the locomotive at the front.
Crossing the Gaps
- Starting Point: You begin on a platform next to a stationary train.
- Action: Jump onto the first train car. Be mindful of the gaps between cars.
- Strategy: For wider gaps, you may need to gain some momentum before jumping. Extend your arms forward (hold both grab buttons) to increase your reach and potentially grab the edge of the next car if you fall short.
- Item: Some gaps might have a plank of wood or a metal beam lying nearby. You can pick these up and use them to bridge smaller gaps or create a makeshift ramp.
The Freight Car Challenge
- Area: You'll encounter a large freight car filled with various objects, including large metal barrels and wooden pallets.
- Objective: To proceed, you need to reach an exit on the far side of the car, which is often elevated.
- Strategy: Use the barrels and pallets to create a stack or a series of steps.
- Action: Grab a barrel and carefully position it. Then, grab another and stack it on top. Be careful not to let them roll away. You can use your body to brace them.
- Tip: If a barrel is too heavy to lift easily, try rolling it into position or using both hands to push/pull it.
The Moving Train Section
- Transition: At a certain point, the train will begin to move. This adds a layer of difficulty to subsequent jumps and manipulations.
- Strategy: When the train is moving, your jumps will be affected by its momentum. Jump with the direction of travel to maximize distance, or jump against it to reduce distance if you need to land precisely.
- Environmental Hazard: Watch out for tunnels or overhead obstacles that might knock you off the train if you're standing too tall. Duck (crouch) or lie flat if necessary.
Castle
The Castle level is a more complex environment, featuring multiple paths, vertical challenges, and often requiring the use of siege equipment. Your ultimate goal is to reach the highest point of the castle and activate a final mechanism.
The Drawbridge and Catapult
- Starting Point: You begin outside the castle walls, facing a raised drawbridge.
- Objective: Lower the drawbridge to gain entry.
- Item: To the right of the drawbridge, you'll find a catapult.
- Action: Approach the catapult. You'll see a large stone projectile nearby. Grab the stone and place it into the catapult's basket.
- Strategy: Next, locate the rope mechanism attached to the catapult's arm. Grab the rope and pull it back to tension the catapult. Once fully tensioned, release the rope to launch the stone. Aim for the mechanism that holds the drawbridge up. It might take a few tries to get the aim right.
Wall Scaling and Turrets
- Area: Once inside, you'll need to ascend the castle walls. Look for broken sections or scaffolding.
- Action: Utilize any available wooden planks or crates to create makeshift stairs or bridges.
- Strategy: Some sections might require you to grab onto small protrusions or decorative elements on the wall and pull yourself up. This often involves swinging your body to gain momentum for higher grabs.
- Obstacle: You'll encounter turrets. Some might have a lever that controls a gate or opens a path. Others might simply be vantage points.
The Bell Tower
- Objective: The final challenge often involves reaching the top of a tall bell tower.
- Pathfinding: Look for internal staircases, ladders (which you need to grab and climb rung by rung), or external ledges.
- Puzzle: At the very top, there's typically a large bell. To complete the level, you need to ring it.
- Action: Find the bell's clapper or a rope attached to it. Grab it and swing it forcefully to make the bell ring. This usually requires a strong pull and possibly a jump to maximize the swing.
