Dodge & Block
In Last Epoch, survivability is paramount, and two core defensive mechanics are Dodge and Block. Dodge allows you to evade incoming attacks entirely, while Block reduces incoming damage from attacks that hit you. Building effective Dodge and Block into your character's defenses can dramatically increase your survivability against the game's toughest enemies.
Mastering defensive mechanics like Dodge and Block is crucial for surviving the challenging encounters in Last Epoch. Dodge provides a chance to completely avoid an incoming attack, while Block mitigates a portion of the damage from attacks that do connect. Investing in these stats, along with other defensive layers, can make the difference between a swift victory and a swift demise.
Dodge:
- Mechanic: Dodge is a chance-based stat that allows your character to completely avoid an incoming attack.
- Sources: Dodge Rating can be increased through passive skills, gear affixes, and certain skills.
- Diminishing Returns: While powerful, Dodge effectiveness can have diminishing returns, meaning each subsequent point invested yields less benefit.
- Interaction with Attacks: Dodge is effective against most physical and elemental attacks but may not apply to all damage types or specific boss mechanics.
Block:
- Mechanic: Block is a chance-based stat that, when triggered, reduces the damage taken from an attack.
- Sources: Block Chance can be found on gear, shields, and through passive skills. Block Effectiveness, which determines the amount of damage reduced, can also be increased.
- Shields: Equipping a shield sificantly increases your Block Chance and often provides a base Block Effectiveness.
- Types of Block: Some skills or passives might offer specialized forms of block, such as glancing blows or specific damage type reductions.
- Interaction with Attacks: Block is generally effective against melee and ranged attacks. Certain abilities may also interact with block.
Synergy and Strategy:
Many builds benefit from a combination of Dodge and Block. Investing in both can create a robust defensive layer. Consider focusing on one primary defensive stat while supplementing with the other. Always check your character sheet to understand your current Dodge and Block values and how they interact with your chosen skills and gear.
