Multiplayer & Co-op Guide
Last Epoch's online functionality allows players to team up and tackle the challenges of Eterra together. Whether you're coordinating with friends or joining random groups, understanding how multiplayer works is essential for a smooth and rewarding co-op experience. This guide covers party formation, trading, and general etiquette.
Playing with others can sificantly enhance your enjoyment of the game, allowing for specialized roles, faster clearing of content, and a more dynamic combat experience. Effective communication and coordination are key to maximizing the benefits of co-op play.
Forming a Party
You can invite other players to your party through the in-game social menu. You can be found through:
- Friend List: If you have added players as friends, you can easily invite them.
- Player List: When in a town or hub area, you can often see other players and invite them directly.
- Matchmaking: For certain activities, like dungeons, there might be a matchmaking system to find other players.
Parties can consist of up to four players. Each player's progress is independent, meaning you don't share campa quest progression unless you are on the same quest step. However, you will share experience and loot drops within a certain proximity.
Loot and Experience Sharing
In a party, loot and experience are handled in specific ways:
- Experience: Experience is shared among all party members within a reasonable range of the enemy being killed.
- Item Drops: When an item drops, it is instanced for each player. This means that if an item drops, only You who sees it can pick it up. This prevents disputes over who gets a particular piece of loot.
- Currency Drops: Gold and other currencies are also instanced, ensuring each player receives their share.
Trading in Multiplayer
Trading between players in a party follows the same mechanics as trading with strangers:
- Trade Window: Initiate a trade by right-clicking on another player and selecting "Trade." A dedicated trade window will open.
- Item Instancing Reminder: Remember that while you can trade items you pick up, any items that drop directly for you are yours to keep or trade.
- Communication is Key: Always communicate clearly about what you are trading and what you expect in return.
Co-op Activities
Multiplayer is beneficial for various activities:
- Campa Play: Progress through the story with friends, making challenging encounters more manageable.
- Dungeons: Tackle challenging dungeons like Temporal Sanctum or Lightless Arbor with a coordinated group to overcome their unique mechanics and bosses.
- Monolith of Fate: Farming endgame content in the Monolith of Fate is often faster and more efficient with a party, especially when tackling empowered timelines or specific prophecies.
- Arena Challenges: Compete in the Endless Arena with a team, coordinating defensive and offensive roles to survive as long as possible.
Etiquette and Best Practices
- Communicate Clearly: Use in-game chat or voice communication to coordinate strategies, call out dangers, and discuss loot.
- Respect Roles: If playing with a dedicated tank or healer, allow them to perform their roles.
- Share Information: If you find a valuable item or a useful tip, share it with your party.
- Be Patient: Not everyone plays at the same pace. Be understanding if some party members need more time to loot or manage their inventory.
- Ask Before Taking: While loot is instanced, it's good practice to ask if anyone in the party needs a specific item before you pick it up, especially if it's a rare or build-defining piece.
