Trading & Economy (Online Play)
Last Epoch's online play introduces a dynamic trading system and a player-driven economy. Understanding how to trade effectively and navigate the economic landscape is crucial for acquiring rare items and optimizing your builds. This guide covers the essentials of trading, including realms, game modes, and best practices for interacting with other players.
The game offers different realms and modes that impact how you interact with the economy and other players. Choosing the right realm and mode for your playstyle is the first step to a successful trading experience.
Realms: Cycle vs. Legacy
When you first log in or create a character, you'll choose between two primary realms:
- Cycle Realm: This realm offers a fresh start with a new economy and leaderboards. Each new Cycle (typically 3-4 months) resets the economy, providing a level playing field for all players. This is the most common choice for players looking to engage with the current meta and competitive aspects of the game.
- Legacy Realm: This realm retains your characters and stashes from previous Cycles. It's a place to continue playing with established characters and access older items. The economy here is more established and less volatile than in the Cycle realm.
Game Modes: Normal vs. Hardcore
Within each realm, you can choose your game mode:
- Normal Mode: The standard experience where death does not result in character loss. There's no experience penalty upon death, making it ideal for learning and experimenting.
- Hardcore Mode: Introduces permadeath. If your character dies in Hardcore, they are permanently lost and moved to the Normal realm, unable to compete on the Hardcore ladder. This mode offers the ultimate challenge and requires meticulous preparation and risk assessment.
Challenge Modes: Solo Account/Character Found
For players seeking a more self-sufficient or competitive experience, challenge modes are available:
- Solo Account Found: Your stash and crafting materials are shared across all characters on your account, but you cannot trade with other players.
- Solo Character Found: A true solo experience where your character starts with an empty stash, no crafting materials, and no gold. This mode is often used for races and tournaments.
Trading Mechanics
Trading in Last Epoch is facilitated through the in-game trade system. You can list items for sale or search for items they wish to purchase. The economy is driven by supply and demand, with rare and powerful items commanding higher prices.
- Trade Window: When you initiate a trade with another player, a dedicated trade window opens, allowing you to exchange items and currency.
- Item Valuation: Understanding the value of items is key. Factors like rarity, affixes, implicit stats, and whether an item is a unique, set, or exalted piece heavily influence its price.
- Currency: The primary currency used in trading is Gold.
Tips for Successful Trading
- Research Prices: Before buying or selling, check the market for similar items to get a sense of their current value.
- Be Patient: Finding the right buyer or seller can take time. Don't be afraid to wait for a fair offer.
- Communicate Clearly: When trading, be clear about the item you're offering or seeking and the price.
- Beware of Scams: While Last Epoch has a generally fair trading community, always double-check trades to ensure you're getting what you expect.
