Character Creation & Import

Character Creation & Import

Players who completed the first Mass Effect can import their save files into Mass Effect 2, bringing their Shepard and consequences from previous choices. Characters who died in Mass Effect 1 will not return in ME2. This guide assumes you have completed ME1 and are importing a character.

To import an ME1 character:

  1. Start the game and press any key to go to the main menu.
  2. Select "New Game" and then choose "Import ME1 Character". (Avoid the "Import ME2 character" option for your first playthrough).
  3. On the next screen, select the ME1 character and outcome you wish to import. If multiple saves exist for the same character, they represent different outcomes.

Character Import Tip: Things you can and can't change

When importing a character, you will find differences in the character customization screen compared to creating a new ME2 character. Much of your information is already known from ME1, so you will have limited options on your first playthrough.
