Effective save game management is crucial in Medieval Dynasty to prevent loss of progress, experiment with different choices, and recover from unforeseen events. The game offers both an autosave feature and manual saving options, each with its own benefits and considerations.

Autosave System

The game automatically saves your progress at regular intervals and upon certain significant events. While convenient, relying solely on autosaves can be risky, as they might overwrite a save point you wished to return to. Here's how it generally works:

Seasonal Transitions: The game autosaves at the beginning of each new season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter). This is a reliable checkpoint, but remember that a lot can happen within a season.
Major Quest Completions: After completing significant main story quests or important side quests, an autosave will often trigger.
Time-Based Intervals: Less frequent than seasonal saves, but the game will periodically autosave during gameplay. The exact timing can vary.

Strategy: Treat autosaves as a safety net, not your primary saving method. Always perform a manual save before attempting anything risky or making a major decision.

Manual Saving

Manual saving gives you complete control over when and where your game state is preserved. This is your most powerful tool for save management.

How to Manually Save:

Access the Pause Menu: Press the ESC key (on PC) to open the main game menu.
Navigate to the Save/Load Option: From the menu, select "Save Game."
Choose a Save Slot: You will be presented with a list of save slots. It's highly recommended to use multiple slots rather than overwriting the same one repeatedly. This allows you to revert to earlier points if needed.
Name Your Save (Optional but Recommended): While the game provides a default timestamp, you can rename your save file to something more descriptive. For example, "Before Bandit Camp," "Building House 3," or "Winter Year 5." This makes it much easier to identify specific save points later.
Confirm Save: Select "Save" to finalize the process.

Strategic Manual Saving:

Before Risky Encounters: Always save before confronting bandits, hunting dangerous animals like bears or wisents, or exploring unknown caves.
Before Major Decisions: If you're about to make a choice in a quest that could have significant consequences (e.g., choosing a spouse, accepting a new villager, making a critical dialogue choice), save beforehand.
Before Large Construction Projects: Building a new house, barn, or workshop requires resources and time. Save before committing to a large build to ensure you have the materials and are happy with the placement.
At the End of a Play Session: Always perform a manual save before exiting the game to ensure all your progress is captured.
Creating "Checkpoint" Saves: Periodically create a new save slot (e.g., at the start of each new year or after a major village expansion) that you don't immediately overwrite. These act as long-term backups.

Loading a Game

If you need to revert to a previous save, follow these steps:

Access the Pause Menu: Press the ESC key (on PC) to open the main game menu.
Navigate to the Save/Load Option: From the menu, select "Load Game."
Select Your Desired Save: Browse through your list of save files. Pay attention to the date, time, and any custom names you've given them to find the correct one.
Confirm Load: Select "Load" to load the chosen save file.

Important Note: Loading a game will discard all progress made since that save point. Use this feature carefully.

Managing Save Slots

The game provides a generous number of save slots. Don't be afraid to use them! Overwriting your only save file is a common pitfall. Consider a rotating system, where you use 3-5 slots for your most recent saves, and occasionally create a dedicated "archive" save for major milestones.
