Easter Eggs

Discover hidden Easter eggs in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, including cassette tapes like 'Here's to You', costume unlocks, and Hideo Kojima.

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes features numerous in-jokes and humorous secrets scattered throughout Camp Omega.

The iDroid & Cassette Tapes

The iDroid provides a map and mission info, and also accesses Snake’s Walkman to play found cassettes. These include story insights for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, series soundtracks, and music from other Kojima Studios games.

• Déjà Vu: Features ‘Resurgence’ from Metal Gear Solid and ‘Theme of Tara’.
• Jamais Vu: Features ‘Ambushed’ from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and ‘The Pleasure of Tension’ from Snatcher.
• Zone of Enders: The 2nd Runner: ‘Beyond the Bounds feat. KARYYN – Esheric’ is unlocked by beating every mission, side-op and extra-op on hard difficulty.
• Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes: ‘Here’s to You’ soundtrack is on a cassette in the cell behind Chico’s in the Ground Zeroes mission.

Costume Unlocks

Completing Extra-ops on different difficulties unlocks costumes:

• Jamais Vu: Normal difficulty unlocks Raiden’s White armour outfit.
• Jamais Vu: Hard difficulty unlocks Raiden’s Command armour outfit.
• Déjà Vu: Normal difficulty plus the Metal Gear Solid quiz unlocks the Classic Snake Skin.
• Déjà Vu: Hard difficulty plus the Metal Gear Solid quiz unlocks the Frank Jaeger Skin.

Hideo Kojima Appearing In-Game

Series creator Hideo Kojima is an NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you). During the ‘Intel Operative Rescue’ side-op, escorting a contact reveals it is Kojima, who will appraise your performance based on your score. He also appears in the background of the level select menu and returns if you repeat the ‘Intel Operative Rescue’ side-op.

Camp Omega Shadow Moses Theme (PS3/PS4 Only)

After completing the Déjà vu mission on normal and equipping the Classic Snake skin (select Déjà Vu Extra-op, then press Right on the D-Pad), the mission environment changes. Snake becomes pixelated, it snows, and guards wear arctic survival gear, mimicking Shadow Moses.

Checking the Disk Case (PS3/PS4 Only)

During the PS3/PS4 exclusive Déjà Vu extra-op mission, players must recreate photos from their iDroid. The final photo is blank, but a hint directs you to look on the back of the disc case. This features the classic blackout image from the original Metal Gear Solid, providing a clue for the final scene.

FOXDIE (PS3/PS4 Only)

After completing the Déjà vu mission on normal and equipping the classic snake skin (select Déjà Vu Extra-op, then press Right on the D-Pad), the P.O.Ws in the area where Paz and Chico were in the Ground Zeroes mission are replaced by the DARPA Chief and the president of ARMS-Tech from Metal Gear Solid. They die from the Foxdie virus during a rescue attempt. The screen then turns psychedelic, indicating a system infection by the FoxDie virus, which eventually recedes due to the Fox Engine.
