Communications Tower A
As you enter Communications Tower A, prepare for a multi-floor ascent filled with enemy patrols, security cameras, and a challenging boss encounter. This section will guide you through each floor, highlighting enemy placements, item locations, and strategic approaches to ensure a smooth climb.
Navigating the Tower: Ground Floor to Roof
The Communications Tower A is a vertical challenge, requiring careful movement and awareness of your surroundings. Your radar (Soliton Radar) is your most valuable tool here, providing real-time enemy positions and camera cones of vision. Always consult it before advancing.
Recommended Gear:
- SOCOM Pistol: For silent takedowns of guards.
- Silencer (SOCOM): Essential for maintaining stealth.
- Chaff Grenades: To temporarily disable security cameras and other electronic devices.
- Thermal Goggles: Useful for spotting tripwires or hidden enemies, though less critical in this specific area.
- Rations: Always carry a good supply for health recovery.
Ground Floor & First Ascent
Upon entering, you'll find yourself in a relatively open area. Two guards patrol this floor. One typically moves between the entrance and the first ladder, while the other covers the area near the stairs leading to the second floor. A security camera is positioned near the base of the first ladder, overlooking the entrance.
- Strategy: Immediately after entering, equip your SOCOM with a silencer. Take out the first patrolling guard when his back is turned. Use a Chaff Grenade to disable the camera before ascending the first ladder.
- Items:
- Ration: Often found in a small alcove or behind some crates on the ground floor.
Mid-Floors: Ladders, Platforms, and Patrols
The ascent involves a series of ladders and narrow platforms. Each floor typically features at least one patrolling guard and a security camera. Falling from these heights will result in significant damage, so move cautiously.
- Strategy: As you climb each ladder, immediately check your radar. Guards often patrol the landing zones at the top of ladders. Wait for them to turn their backs or move away before emerging. Use Chaff Grenades liberally on cameras. If you're spotted, quickly find cover or take out the aggressor before reinforcements arrive. Remember that guards will call for backup if they see you or find a body.
- Specific Camera Locations:
- Floor 2: One camera overlooks the main platform.
- Floor 3: Another camera is positioned near the next set of ladders.
- Floor 4: A camera often covers a narrow walkway.
- Item Locations (General):
- Grenades: Often found in small storage rooms or behind crates on various floors.
- Cardboard Box: Useful for hiding from patrols, sometimes found on mid-level platforms.
- Ammo (SOCOM): Scattered throughout the tower, usually near guard posts.
The Top Floor: Sniper Wolf's Ambush
As you reach the top-most platform, you'll trigger an unexpected encounter. This is not Vulcan Raven in his tank; instead, you will face your first major boss battle against Sniper Wolf. She will be positioned across a large gap, using the tower's structure for cover and long-range attacks.

Boss Battle: Sniper Wolf (First Encounter)
This is your first true test of sniping skills. Sniper Wolf is a formidable opponent, capable of taking you down with a single well-placed shot if you're not careful.
Preparation & Strategy
- Recommended Weapon: The PSG-1 Sniper Rifle is absolutely essential for this fight. If you don't have it, you'll need to backtrack to the Armory or use the "backdoor" method (see below).
- Loadout:
- PSG-1 Sniper Rifle: Your primary weapon.
- Diazepam: Crucial for steadying your aim with the PSG-1. You should have collected some in the Tank Hangar or Nuclear Warhead Storage Building.
- Rations: Many of them. Sniper Wolf's shots are devastating.
- The Arena: You'll be on a platform with some cover (crates, pillars). Sniper Wolf will be across the gap, moving between various sniping positions.
Phase 1: The Initial Exchange
As soon as the fight begins, equip your PSG-1 and Diazepam. Take cover immediately. Sniper Wolf will take her first shot quickly. Your goal is to spot her, aim, take Diazepam, and fire. She will move after each shot.
- Spotting Wolf: Use the PSG-1's scope to scan the opposite platform. Look for her distinct white uniform.
- Timing Shots: She will peek out, take a shot, and then retreat. You need to anticipate her movements. Fire when she is stationary and exposed.
- Diazepam Usage: Use Diazepam just before you're about to take your shot. It lasts for a short duration, so time it well.
Phase 2: Advanced Tactics
As her health depletes, Sniper Wolf may become more aggressive or change her patterns. She might stay exposed for slightly longer or try to bait you into revealing yourself.
- Movement: Don't stay in one spot. Move between cover points to avoid predictable shots.
- Headshots: Aim for headshots for maximum damage, but body shots are also effective if you can't get a clean headshot.
- Patience: This fight is a test of patience. Don't rush your shots. Wait for a clear opening.
Common Pitfalls:
- Running out of Diazepam: Without it, your aim will be extremely shaky, making it nearly impossible to hit Sniper Wolf.
- Lack of Rations: Her shots deal heavy damage. If you're low on health items, you won't last long.
- No PSG-1: Attempting this fight without the PSG-1 is incredibly difficult. If you find yourself without it, you'll need to backtrack.
Alternative Strategy (If you lack PSG-1):
If you somehow reached this point without the PSG-1, you have a very challenging alternative. You can attempt to hit her with Grenades by throwing them across the gap, but this is highly inaccurate and consumes a lot of grenades. A more viable but still difficult option is to use the Nikita Missile Launcher. Guide the missile across the gap and into her position. This requires precise control and timing.
Reward for Victory
After successfully defeating Sniper Wolf in Communications Tower A, she will retreat, and you will gain access to the next area. More importantly, you will receive the Level 5 Card Key. This key is crucial for unlocking doors in the next section of Shadow Moses Island, allowing you to progress further into the facility.
