Bestiary
Welcome to the Bestiary, your comprehensive guide to the myriad of hostile and fascinating lifeforms you'll encounter across the varied biomes of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Understanding your enemies is key to survival and efficient exploration. This section details their weaknesses, attack patterns, and the best strategies to dispatch them, ensuring you can navigate even the most perilous environments.
Common Foes
These are the creatures you'll frequently encounter. While individually not always a major threat, their numbers or environmental advantages can quickly overwhelm an unprepared Samus.
- Geemer:
- Location: Primarily found clinging to walls and ceilings in the Veridian Jungle and Arcturian Wastes.
- Strategy: Geemers are armored on their backs. A single shot from your Power Beam to their underside or exposed belly will dispatch them. Alternatively, a well-placed Charge Beam shot can penetrate their armor from any angle. They are immune to the Ice Beam.
- Drops: Small Energy, Missile Ammo.
- Zoomer:
- Location: Common in enclosed spaces and ventilation shafts across Research Station Epsilon and the Phazon Mines.
- Strategy: These fast-moving creatures scurry along surfaces. A quick burst from the Power Beam or a single Missile will eliminate them. They are susceptible to the Wave Beam's area-of-effect properties if multiple are clustered.
- Drops: Small Energy.
- Swarmer Drone:
- Location: Found in large groups in the Derelict Freighter and Xylosian Ruins.
- Strategy: Swarmer Drones attack in packs. Use your Charge Beam to clear multiple at once, or deploy a Power Bomb if you're surrounded. The Plasma Beam is highly effective due to its piercing properties.
- Drops: Small Energy, Missile Ammo.
Elite Threats
These enemies pose a more significant challenge, often requiring specific weapon types or tactical approaches. Be prepared before engaging.
- Phazon Crawler:
- Location: Exclusively found in areas heavily contaminated with Phazon, such as the Phazon Mines Core and Dark Aether Nexus.
- Strategy: Phazon Crawlers are heavily armored and resistant to most conventional attacks. Scan them to reveal their weak point: a glowing Phazon sac on their underbelly. Wait for them to rear up, then unleash a volley of Super Missiles or a charged Phazon Beam shot directly at the sac. The Grapple Beam can sometimes be used to pull off armor plates, exposing the sac.
- Drops: Large Energy, Super Missile Ammo.
- Sentinel Turret:
- Location: Stationary defenses found in high-security areas of Research Station Epsilon and the Galactic Federation Outpost.
- Strategy: Sentinel Turrets have a frontal shield. You must either flank them to hit their exposed rear panel with the Power Beam, or use a Morph Ball Bomb to disable their base. The Wave Beam can sometimes bypass their shields if fired from an angle. For heavily armored variants, a Power Bomb is the most efficient solution.
- Drops: Missile Ammo, occasionally a Power Bomb Expansion if it's a unique variant.
- Shadow Lurker:
- Location: Predominantly found in dimly lit or dark zones within the Xylosian Ruins and Subterranean Caverns.
- Strategy: These creatures are cloaked and difficult to target. Use your Thermal Visor to pinpoint their heat signature. Once targeted, the Plasma Beam is highly effective, as its heat-seeking properties can track them even while cloaked. A well-timed Charge Beam shot can briefly stun them, allowing for follow-up attacks.
- Drops: Small Energy, occasionally a Energy Tank if it's a mini-boss variant.
Bosses and Mini-Bosses
These formidable adversaries require specific tactics and often multiple phases to defeat. Consult the main walkthrough for detailed boss strategies, but here are some quick tips.
- Kraid's Maw:
- Location: Deep within the Volcanic Core.
- Strategy Hint: Focus on its exposed mouth during its roar attacks. Missiles and Super Missiles are crucial. Watch for its arm sweeps and utilize your Space Jump Boots for evasion.
- Phazon Guardian:
- Location: Protecting the Phazon Core Reactor.
- Strategy Hint: This boss has multiple Phazon-infused weak points that only become vulnerable after specific attacks. Use your Phazon Beam and Power Bombs strategically.
