Enemy Bestiary
Welcome to the comprehensive Metroid Enemy Bestiary! This section details the various hostile creatures you'll encounter across Planet Zebes, offering strategies to overcome them and maximize your resource gains. Understanding your foes is key to survival and efficient exploration.
I. Crateria & Brinstar Inhabitants
These are some of the first enemies you'll face. While generally weaker, they can still pose a threat in numbers or if underestimated.
Zebesian Space Pirate
- Location: Common throughout Crateria and Brinstar, often found guarding critical paths.
- Description: The standard foot soldier of Mother Brain's forces. They are bipedal, armed with energy weapons, and come in various colorations indicating different health and attack patterns.
- Strategy:
- Green Pirates: The weakest variant. A few shots from your Power Beam will dispatch them. They often drop small energy or missile refills.
- Purple/Blue Pirates: More resilient than their green counterparts. Requires more Power Beam shots or a single Missile to defeat. Be wary of their slightly faster projectiles.
- Combat Tips: Engage them from a distance if possible. Use your Jump to evade their energy blasts. If you have the Charge Beam, a charged shot can often take them out in one hit, conserving missiles.
- Drops: Small Energy, Missiles.
Zoomer
- Location: Frequently found clinging to walls and ceilings in Crateria and Brinstar.
- Description: Small, insect-like creatures that scuttle along surfaces. They are more of an environmental hazard than a direct threat.
- Strategy:
- Zoomers have low health and can be defeated with a single Power Beam shot.
- The easiest way to deal with them is often to ignore them if they aren't directly in your path.
- If they are blocking a narrow passage or you need to collect potential drops, a quick shot will suffice.
- Drops: Small Energy.
Ripper
- Location: Commonly seen flying in predictable patterns across rooms in Crateria and Brinstar.
- Description: Armored, flying creatures that are impervious to most frontal attacks. They follow set flight paths.
- Strategy:
- Rippers cannot be damaged by your Power Beam or Missiles from the front.
- To defeat them, you must hit their vulnerable underside. This is best done by jumping and firing upwards, or using a well-timed Morph Ball Bomb if they are close to the ground.
- Alternatively, use the Screw Attack (once acquired) to instantly destroy them upon contact.
- Often, it's safer and more efficient to simply avoid them by ducking under their flight path or jumping over them.
- Drops: None.
II. Norfair's Fiery Foes
The scorching depths of Norfair introduce more aggressive and resilient enemies, many of whom are adapted to the extreme heat.
Magdollite
- Location: Exclusively found in the lava-filled areas of Norfair.
- Description: Rock-like creatures that emerge from the lava, often in groups. They are slow but can be surprisingly durable.
- Strategy:
- Magdollites have moderate health. Several Power Beam shots or a single Missile will destroy them.
- Be cautious when they appear, as their emergence can sometimes push you into lava if you're too close.
- Prioritize eliminating them if they are in your way, especially when navigating precarious platforms over lava.
- Drops: Small Energy.
Screamer
- Location: Flying enemies found in various chambers of Norfair.
- Description: Bat-like creatures that fly erratically and emit a high-pitched shriek (hence their name). They are fast and can be annoying.
- Strategy:
- Screamers are relatively fragile, often taking only one or two Power Beam shots to defeat.
- Their erratic flight patterns can make them difficult to hit. Aim carefully or use a charged shot for a wider hit radius.
- They can quickly drain your energy if you're not careful, so try to eliminate them before they get too close.
- Drops: Small Energy, Missiles.
Lava Bat
- Location: Found in rooms with lava pools in Norfair, often flying above the molten rock.
- Description: Small, fiery bats that fly in predictable wave patterns. They are a nuisance but not a major threat individually.
- Strategy:
- Lava Bats are very weak and can be destroyed with a single Power Beam shot.
- They often appear in swarms. Use rapid fire or a charged shot to clear them out quickly.
- Be mindful of their flight path, as they can knock you into lava if you're not careful.
- Drops: Small Energy.
