Monster materials are the lifeblood of progression in Monster Hunter: World. Every beast you fell yields a bounty of unique components, from scales and claws to horns and hides. These materials are essential for crafting and upgrading weapons, armor, and other vital equipment, allowing you to tackle increasingly formidable foes.

Monster materials are the primary currency for progression in Monster Hunter: World. Every monster you hunt drops several components, each with its own use. These materials are obtained through carving the monster's corpse after a successful hunt, breaking specific monster parts during combat, or by capturing the monster. The type and rarity of materials you obtain depend on the monster, the part you break, and whether you carve or capture. For example, carving a Rathian might yield Rathian Scales, Rathian Plate, or a Rathian Tail. Breaking its head could yield a Rathian Ruby, a rare gem. Capturing a monster often yields different, sometimes rarer, materials than carving. It's crucial to understand which materials you need for your desired gear. Your Hunter's Notes will provide a comprehensive list of materials obtainable from each monster, along with their rarity and how to acquire them. Some materials are common, like Jagras Scales, while others are exceptionally rare, such as Elder Dragon Gems. These rare materials are often required for the most powerful weapons and armor sets. Beyond crafting, monster materials are also used for augmenting your Master Rank gear in the Guiding Lands. Augmenting allows you to further enhance your weapons and armor with additional stats or skills. Pay close attention to the quest rewards as well, as some materials are more reliably obtained through specific quests.
