Deviljho: The Tyrant of the New World
The Deviljho, often referred to as the "Tyrant," is a colossal pickle-shaped brute wyvern that can appear uninvited in many of Monster Hunter: World's locales. Its insatiable hunger drives it to attack anything it perceives as a threat or a meal. This beast is known for its immense physical power, devastating breath attacks, and the ability to inflict the Dragonblight status. Facing a Deviljho is a true test of a hunter's resilience and adaptability.
Deviljho's presence is often saled by its aggressive territorial behavior and its tendency to interrupt other hunts. Its sature move is a massive, sweeping tail attack that can cover a wide area, followed by a powerful bite or a devastating breath of dragon energy. When it enters its enraged state, its chest and jaw glow red, and its attacks become even more ferocious. Mastering the art of evasion and knowing when to strike are crucial for survival against this apex predator.
Key Weaknesses and Resistances
Deviljho is weak to Thunder and Dragon elements. It has moderate resistance to Fire and Water, and is highly resistant to Ice. For status effects, it is susceptible to Blast and Paralysis. It has a high resistance to Poison. Its head is its primary weak point, especially when its mouth is glowing red.
Recommended Gear and Items
- Weapons: Thunder or Dragon element weapons are highly recommended. Weapons with high raw damage can also be effective, especially when combined with Blast or Paralysis.
- Armor: Prioritize armor with high Thunder or Dragon resistance. Skills like Guard (if using a shield weapon), Evade Window, and Tremor Resistance are very beneficial.
- Items: Bring plenty of Mega Potions, Max Potions, Nulberries (to cure Dragonblight), and Dash Juice for stamina. Flash Pods can be useful to interrupt its attacks.
Combat Strategy
The Deviljho's attacks are powerful and wide-reaching. Its most dangerous are its lunging bites, its sweeping tail attacks, and its dragon breath. When it rears back and its jaw glows red, prepare for a devastating breath attack that can inflict Dragonblight. Dodge to the side repeatedly to avoid this. Its tail sweeps can cover a large arc, so be mindful of your positioning. When it's enraged, its attacks become faster and more punishing. Try to stay behind it and target its head when it's vulnerable, especially after it finishes a major attack. If you're using a shield weapon, Guard Up can help mitigate some of its more powerful attacks. Be aware that Deviljho can pick up and throw large rocks or even other monsters, so keep your distance when it does so.
Quest Information
Deviljho can appear as a special assment, a tempered monster investigation, or as an invader in High Rank quests. Its "The Tyrant of the Jungle" quest is a notable encounter. It can appear in various environments, including the Ancient Forest, Wildspire Waste, and Coral Highlands.
