This monster is a true menace, often appearing when you least expect it, disrupting your carefully planned strategies with its aerial bombardments. Its sheer power and unpredictable nature make it a significant threat.
You'll most commonly encounter the Bazelgeuse in the Coral Highlands, Rotten Vale, and Elder's Recess. However, its defining characteristic is its ability to invade other monster hunts. If you see a notification that a Bazelgeuse has appeared, be prepared for a sudden and explosive encounter, regardless of your current objective.
Combat Strategy
The Bazelgeuse's primary offensive capability comes from the explosive scales it drops from its body. As it flies or moves, it will shed these scales, which detonate after a short delay or when struck. The most dangerous aspect of this is when it flies overhead and drops a carpet of these scales. When it rears up and its neck glows, it's preparing to unleash a massive explosion from its chest. This attack has a wide radius and deals significant damage, so immediate evasion is paramount.
When the Bazelgeuse is on the ground, it will often perform sweeping attacks with its wings and tail, which can also inflict damage. Its head is a weak point, but it's often elevated, making it difficult to hit consistently. Targeting its legs can lead to trips, creating valuable openings. The Bazelgeuse is particularly weak to Thunder and Dragon element damage. Exploiting these elemental weaknesses will greatly shorten the fight.
Recommended Gear and Items
- Armor: Prioritize armor with high defense and good Earplugs skill. The Bazelgeuse's roars are frequent and powerful, and Earplugs will negate their effects, preventing you from being stunned and opening you up to attacks. Fire resistance is also beneficial.
- Weapons: Thunder or Dragon element weapons are your best bet. Weapons with good reach can help you target its head more effectively.
- Items: Nulberries are essential to cure Blastblight, which is frequently inflicted by its scales. Flash Pods can be used to bring it down from the air, creating an opportunity for sustained damage. Health Potions and Mega Potions are standard survival items.
