Lunastra

Lunastra, the Azure Queen, is a majestic Elder Dragon that presents a significant challenge even in low-rank quests. Her fiery breath and devastating nova attacks require careful preparation and precise execution. This guide will equip you with the knowledge to face this queen of the Elder Dragons.

Lunastra is an Elder Dragon found in various locales, most notably the Elder's Recess. She shares many similarities with her mate, Teostra, but possesses her own unique and deadly arsenal. Her primary attacks involve fire-based assaults, including streams of flame and explosive bursts. However, her most feared ability is her Supernova, a massive, area-of-effect explosion that can inflict severe damage and the Blastblight status effect.

Weaknesses and Resistances

Lunastra is weak to Water and Thunder elemental damage. She has a high resistance to Fire and Dragon. For status effects, she is moderately susceptible to Poison and Paralysis, but highly resistant to Sleep and Blast.

Attack Patterns and Strategies

  • Flame Breath: Lunastra can unleash a continuous stream of fire or a burst of flames. Dodge to the sides or use a well-timed block.
  • Flame Pillars: She can summon pillars of fire from the ground. Watch for the ground indicators and move out of the way.
  • Tail Swipe: A sweeping attack with her tail. Usually telegraphed by her turning her body.
  • Wing Flap: A quick flap of her wings can create a gust of wind, pushing hunters back.
  • Supernova: Her most dangerous attack. She'll roar, gather energy, and then unleash a massive explosion. The key to surviving this is to get behind her or use an Evasion Mantle. If you see her charging up, immediately sprint away or use a Flash Pod to interrupt it.

Lunastra's weak points are her head and tail. Weapons with high water or thunder elemental damage will be most effective. Consider using armor with high fire resistance, such as the High Metal set or parts from the Rathalos line. Bringing Nulberries is essential to cure Blastblight. If you're struggling with her Supernova, the Evasion Mantle can provide crucial invincibility frames. When she's enraged, she'll glow with a fiery aura, and her attacks will become more aggressive.

Recommended Gear

For low-rank, focus on armor that provides good defense and skills like Fire Resistance, Evade Window, or Health Boost. Weapons like the Jyuratodus Lance or the Tobi-Kadachi Long Sword can exploit her elemental weaknesses. Ensure you have plenty of Max Potions and Nulberries in your inventory.
