Barroth

The Barroth is a formidable early-game monster in Monster Hunter: World, known for its aggressive charges and mud-slinging attacks. Mastering its patterns is crucial for new hunters. This guide will detail its weaknesses, attack patterns, and effective strategies to bring it down.

The Barroth is a brute wyvern that primarily inhabits arid environments like the Wildspire Waste. Its sature move is a powerful charge, often preceded by a distinct roar and a lowering of its head. It also utilizes mud, which it can fling at hunters, inflicting the Waterblight status effect, slowing stamina recovery. When enraged, the Barroth's head will glow, and its attacks become faster and more damaging.

Weaknesses and Resistances

The Barroth is weak to Fire and Thunder elemental damage. Conversely, it possesses a high resistance to Water and Dragon. For status effects, it is moderately susceptible to Blast and Poison, but highly resistant to Paralysis and Sleep.

Attack Patterns and Strategies

  • Charge: The Barroth will lower its head and charge. Dodge to the side. This is its most dangerous attack.
  • Mud Fling: It will scoop up mud and fling it. Keep your distance or dodge. If hit, use a Nulberry to cure Waterblight.
  • Head Slam: It slams its head down, often after a charge. Be prepared to dodge again.
  • Tail Swipe: A sweeping attack with its tail. Usually telegraphed by a slight turn of its body.

Focus your attacks on its head and forelegs, as these are its most vulnerable points. Weapons with high raw damage or fire/thunder elemental damage will be most effective. Consider bringing Flash Pods to interrupt its charges and create openings for damage. When it's covered in mud, its elemental weaknesses are reduced, so try to break off the mud by hitting its head or using a strong attack.

Recommended Gear

For early game, armor sets with good defense and skills like Attack Boost or Fire Attack are beneficial. Weapons like the Rathalos Great Sword or Tobi-Kadachi Switch Axe can exploit its elemental weaknesses.
