Black Diablos
The Black Diablos is a fearsome variant of the Diablos, known for its immense power and aggressive territorial nature. Encountered primarily in arid environments, this beast is a true test of a hunter's skill and preparation, especially in Master Rank.
Black Diablos is a brute wyvern that inhabits deserts and arid regions, most notably the Wildspire Waste. It's distinguished by its darker coloration and significantly more aggressive demeanor compared to its regular counterpart. Its primary threat comes from its devastating charges, powerful tail whips, and its ability to burrow underground and erupt with surprising speed. Mastering its tells and learning to predict its movements are paramount to survival.
Weaknesses and Resistances
Black Diablos is weak to Ice and Thunder elemental damage. It has high resistances to Fire and Dragon. For status effects, it is moderately susceptible to Poison and Paralysis, but highly resistant to Sleep and Blast.
| Element | Weakness | Resistance |

Attack Patterns and Strategies
- Charge: Black Diablos will lower its head and charge with incredible speed. Dodge to the side at the last moment. This is often its opening attack.
- Burrow and Erupt: It will dig underground and then burst out from beneath the hunter. Listen for the digging sound and watch for ground disturbances. If you see it burrow, try to get to a higher elevation or use a Sonic Bomb to force it out prematurely.
- Tail Swipe: A powerful sweeping attack with its tail.
- Head Slam: It will slam its head down, often after a charge or a turn.
- Roar: A deafening roar that can stun hunters. Bringing Earplugs is highly recommended for Master Rank hunts.
The Black Diablos's weak points are its head and hind legs. Weapons with high Ice or Thunder elemental damage are most effective. For Master Rank, prioritize armor with high defense and skills like Evade Window, Evade Extender, Earplugs, and Health Boost. The Temporal Mantle can be a lifesaver against its rapid attacks. When it's enraged, its horns will glow, and its attacks will become even more ferocious. Breaking its horns can prevent it from entering its most dangerous states. If you're struggling with its burrowing attacks, consider using Sonic Bombs when it digs, but be aware that this is only effective when it's not enraged.
Recommended Gear
For Master Rank, focus on armor that provides significant defensive bonuses and useful skills. The Odogaron Alpha+ set offers Crit Eye and Speed Sharpening, while the Kirin Alpha+ set provides Thunder Attack. Weapons like the Glavenus Bardred (Great Sword) or the Kirin Thunder III (Switch Axe) can exploit its elemental weaknesses. Always carry Max Potions, Mega Potions, and Sonic Bombs. If you're farming for its materials, focus on breaking its horns and tail.
