Character Creation & Starting Choices

Learn about MOUSE's character creation. Select a Starting Perk to influence your early gameplay and gain subtle bonuses like dodge cooldown reduction.

While MOUSE features a predefined protagonist, Mickey, you do have some initial choices that influence your playstyle. At the beginning of the game, you'll be prompted to select a Starting Perk. These perks offer minor bonuses that can subtly shape your early game experience. For example, the 'Quick Reflexes' perk might grant a slight dodge cooldown reduction, while 'Sharp Shooter' could offer a small accuracy boost. There are typically three to four starting perks to choose from, each catering to a different combat or exploration preference. Consider your preferred playstyle: do you favor stealth, direct combat, or agile movement? Your choice here isn't permanent, as you'll unlock more abilities later, but it provides a useful early advantage. Additionally, you'll choose a difficulty setting, ranging from 'Gumshoe' (easy) to 'Hardboiled' (challenging). We recommend 'Gumshoe' for your first playthrough to fully appreciate the story and mechanics.
