The main story of Moving Out presents players with a series of increasingly complex moving challenges across 30 distinct levels. Each level requires players to achieve a gold medal by completing the move within a strict time limit. Upon successfully earning a gold medal, three additional bonus objectives are unlocked for that specific level. It is important to note that once a gold medal is secured, players are free to take their time completing the bonus objectives without the pressure of the original time constraint. This allows for a more relaxed approach to fulfilling these secondary goals, which can include tasks like finding hidden items or ensuring specific objects are moved in a particular way.
Across the entirety of the main story, players will encounter a total of 30 levels, each offering its own unique set of challenges and environmental hazards. These levels collectively feature 90 objectives, with three bonus objectives per level, encouraging replayability and mastery of each stage. Furthermore, a hidden console is concealed within each of the 30 levels, adding an element of exploration and discovery to the gameplay. The game also incorporates various collectible items and environmental interactions, including 10 mailboxes, one secret mailbox, and 13 toilets that can be interacted with. Players will also encounter 7 different animal types throughout their moving endeavors, some of which may present unique challenges or require specific handling.
The initial levels serve as a mandatory training ground, introducing players to the core mechanics of Moving Out. These introductory stages are desed to familiarize players with actions such as slapping, catching, and throwing objects, all of which are crucial for efficient item relocation. The first level, for instance, includes a single mailbox located near the end of the stage, in the same room as a ghost and a vase. Players are instructed not to slap the ghost, indicating that certain interactions may have consequences. Notably, this introductory level has no time limit, allowing players to focus on understanding the controls and basic physics of the game without the pressure of a ticking clock. This foundational training is essential for tackling the more demanding levels that follow.
