Initial Shelter Construction
Upon landing on a new planet, your immediate priority is often establishing a basic shelter. This initial construction provides a vital sanctuary from environmental hazards, a place to store resources, and a safe point to craft essential items, setting the stage for further exploration.
The first structure you build doesn't need to be a sprawling mansion. A simple, enclosed space is sufficient to protect you from the elements and potentially hostile wildlife. Learning the fundamental building mechanics and the resources required for basic components will allow you to quickly establish a foothold and begin your journey of survival and discovery.
Here's how to construct your initial shelter:
- Accessing the Building Menu: Once you have acquired the Construction Blueprint (usually early in the game through missions), you can access the building menu by pressing the appropriate key or button.
- Essential Components for a Basic Shelter:
- Foundation: Provides a stable base. A simple circular or square foundation is usually sufficient.
- Walls: Enclose the foundation to create a protective space. Basic walls are typically crafted from Ferrite Dust.
- Roof: Completes the enclosure. This can be a flat roof or a more angled des, also crafted from Ferrite Dust.
- Door: Allows you to enter and exit your shelter.
- Resource Requirements:
- Ferrite Dust: The primary resource for most early-game structural components. You'll need to mine a sificant amount of rocks to gather enough.
- Carbon: While not always directly used for basic walls, Carbon is essential for crafting other vital items you'll want to place inside your shelter, such as a Refiner or Storage Containers.
- Placement and Alment:
- Snap-to-Grid: Building components will often snap to a grid, making alment easier.
- Terrain: Try to build on relatively flat ground for stability. If the terrain is uneven, you might need to use foundations to level the area.
- Placing Essential Technology:
- Refiner: Crucial for processing raw materials. Place it inside your shelter for protection and convenience.
- Storage Containers: Expand your inventory by building storage units. These can be placed inside or just outside your shelter.
- Power Source (Optional but Recommended): If you can find an electromagnetic hotspot nearby, placing an Electromagnetic Generator will provide power for your Refiner and other devices. Otherwise, you might rely on portable solar panels initially.
Your first shelter is a stepping stone. Its primary purpose is to provide immediate safety and a functional space to begin your journey. As you gather more resources and blueprints, you can expand and improve upon this initial structure, transforming it into a more robust and personalized base.
