Life Support Upgrades — No Man's Sky Guide
Maintaining your Exosuit's Life Support is paramount for survival in the hazardous environments of No Man's Sky. Upgrading your Life Support system enhances its efficiency, capacity, and recharge rate, allowing you to explore hostile planets for longer periods and survive critical situations with greater ease.
The base Life Support system provides a limited duration before requiring a recharge. This recharge can be done using Carbon or Condensed Carbon. However, for extended exploration, especially on planets with extreme environmental hazards, these base capabilities are insufficient. This is where Exosuit upgrades come into play.
Types of Life Support Upgrades:
- Life Support Module: These are the primary upgrades that increase the maximum capacity of your Life Support meter. Having a larger capacity means you can survive longer without needing a recharge.
- Life Support Booster: These modules increase the rate at which your Life Support recharges, either passively over time or when using consumables like Carbon. This is crucial for quickly recovering from depleted levels.
- Environmental Protection Modules: While not direct Life Support upgrades, modules that protect against extreme heat, cold, radiation, and toxins indirectly support your Life Support by reducing its drain rate in hazardous conditions.
These upgrades are typically acquired through blueprints purchased at Space Stations, found in Manufacturing Facilities, or obtained from completing certain missions. They come in different classes (C, B, A, S), with S-Class modules offering the most sificant improvements.
Strategic Placement and Synergy:
- Technology Slots: Exosuit upgrades are installed in the Technology slots of your Exosuit inventory.
- Adjacent Bonuses: Placing identical or synergistic upgrade modules next to each other in the inventory grid can provide a sificant boost to their effectiveness. For example, placing multiple Life Support modules adjacent to each other will yield greater benefits than if they were scattered.
- Prioritization: If you frequently explore planets with extreme hazards, prioritize environmental protection modules. If you find yourself constantly running out of Life Support during standard exploration, focus on increasing capacity and recharge rate.
By strategically acquiring and installing Life Support upgrades, you can dramatically improve your survivability. An upgraded Life Support system allows you to push further into dangerous territories, spend more time gathering rare resources, and complete challenging missions without the constant worry of your Life Support failing.
