Technology Installation & Upgrades
Technology is the backbone of your journey in No Man's Sky, enabling everything from survival and exploration to combat and resource acquisition. Installing and upgrading technology across your Exosuit, Starship, Multi-Tool, and Exocraft is crucial for progression. Each piece of technology offers unique benefits, and understanding how to acquire, install, and improve them will sificantly enhance your capabilities.
Technology is broadly categorized into different types for each of your equipment slots. For your Exosuit, you have General inventory and Technology slots. For your Starship and Multi-Tool, you also have dedicated Technology slots that offer sificant stat boosts when filled with upgraded modules. Exocraft also benefit from specialized technology. The primary currency for purchasing technology upgrades is Nanites, which can be earned through various activities like scanning fauna and flora, completing missions, and refining materials.
Exosuit Technology
Your Exosuit is equipped with several key technologies:
- Hazard Protection: Essential for surviving extreme environments (see Section 4).
- Life Support: Maintains your oxygen levels.
- Jetpack: Allows for enhanced mobility and traversal.
- Inventory Space: Increases the amount of items you can carry.
- Scanners: Aid in finding resources and points of interest.
Upgrades for these technologies are typically purchased with Nanites from Exosuit Upgrade vendors.
Starship Technology
Your Starship's technology is vital for space travel and combat:
- Hyperdrive: Enables warp travel between star systems.
- Pulse Engine: Provides sub-light speed and maneuverability within systems.
- Shields: Protects your ship from damage.
- Weapons: Essential for space combat.
- Launch Thrusters: Allows for atmospheric liftoff.
Starship technology upgrades can be found as blueprints, purchased from vendors, or sometimes salvaged from derelict freighters.
Multi-Tool Technology
The Multi-Tool is your primary tool for mining, combat, and scanning:
- Mining Beam: Extracts resources from minerals and objects.
- Bolt Caster/Scatter Blaster/Pulse Spitter: Your primary offensive weapons.
- Scanner: Identifies flora, fauna, and minerals.
- Terrain Manipulator: Alters the landscape.
Multi-Tool upgrades are often found in Manufacturing Facilities, purchased from vendors, or discovered through missions.
Exocraft Technology
Exocraft provide specialized ground traversal and utility:
- Boosters: Increase speed and maneuverability.
- Weapons: Arm your Exocraft for combat.
- Mining Lasers: Enhance resource extraction.
- Shields: Provide additional protection.
Exocraft technology blueprints are typically unlocked by building and manning the relevant specialist terminals at your base.
Acquiring and Installing Technology
Technology modules can be acquired through several methods:
- Blueprints: Learned from Manufacturing Facilities, Operations Centres, or through missions.
- Purchasing: Bought with Units or Nanites from vendors in space stations, trading posts, or the Space Anomaly.
- Salvaging: Found in derelict freighters, crashed ships, or by dismantling unwanted items.
Once you have the blueprint or module, you can install it into the appropriate technology slot in your inventory screen.
