Technology & Upgrades

Mastering technology and upgrades is fundamental to progressing and thriving in No Man's Sky. From your Exosuit and Multi-Tool to your Starship and Freighter, each piece of equipment can be enhanced with powerful modules that improve performance, unlock new abilities, and provide crucial protection against hazardous environments.

Exosuit Upgrades: These are vital for survival. They include upgrades to your hazard protection (temperature, radiation, toxicity), jetpack efficiency, inventory capacity, and shield strength. You can acquire Exosuit upgrade modules from Drop Pods found on planets, by purchasing them at Space Stations, or through various missions and rewards.

Multi-Tool Upgrades: Your Multi-Tool is your primary tool for mining, combat, and scanning. Upgrades can sificantly boost its mining speed, combat damage, scanning range, and even unlock new functionalities like the Terrain Manipulator. These are often found in Manufacturing Facilities, purchased from vendors, or obtained as mission rewards.

Starship Upgrades: Enhancing your starship is key to interstellar travel and combat. Upgrades focus on hyperdrive range, warp efficiency, shield strength, maneuverability, and weapon power. S-class upgrades are the highest tier and can be found at Space Stations, through derelict freighters, or as rewards from specific quests. Living Ships have their own unique organic upgrade system.

Freighter Upgrades: While freighters don't have direct combat modules like starships, they can be upgraded to improve their warp range, fleet management capabilities, and storage capacity. Technology modules for freighters are often acquired through investigating derelict freighters.

Acquiring Upgrades:

  • Manufacturing Facilities: Solve puzzles to learn blueprints for technology.
  • Space Stations: Purchase technology modules and upgrade charts.
  • Derelict Freighters: Discover valuable technology and cargo pods.
  • Missions & Expeditions: Earn unique and powerful upgrades as rewards.
  • Salvaged Data: Use this resource to unlock blueprints at research stations.

Strategically choosing and installing the right technology upgrades will dramatically improve your efficiency and survivability, allowing you to tackle more challenging aspects of the game and explore the galaxy with greater confidence.
